Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with another movie review for today! This evening, I will be reviewing the latest addition in the MCU entitled: Thor: Love And Thunder! When this film came out, it received tons of hate, criticism, and mixed reviews from the majority of people who are currently sick and tired of what the filmmakers have done to Thor as well as the overall fourth phase of the MCU. While I do agree that this phase is at its lowest point and most of their films were a hit-and-miss, this movie in particular was actually a pretty good movie experience. I actually enjoyed this movie, which is honestly saying a lot coming from me.

This film is a continuation of Thor’s journey as he rests peacefully with his surviving people of Asgard along with Valkyrie and Korg. However, a vengeful god butcher causes a murderous rampage across the galaxy in slaying dozens of gods, forcing Thor to take action. Little did he know that he will receive unexpected help from an old friend later on.

In my opinion, this film doesn’t deserve all the hate it has gotten, but I will admit it has glaring issues that cannot be ignored or overlooked. While the acting was excellent and the choreography was well-made, the movie was seriously choked to death by it’s over-the-top MCU humor. If you think I’m exaggerating, think again because Taika Waititi wasted no time in throwing every single joke from start to finish. While there were a few lines that were genuinely funny, half of the humor was forced, unnecessary, and downright out-of-place. This movie features a main character dying from cancer and a tragic villain who lost his daughter prior to his corruptive transformation into the god butcher….and Taika thought it would be okay to make this movie a comedy with these dark elements therein. It’s just inappropriate and unfitting. It completely takes me out of the experience because of that.

The other main flaw was Gorr’s lack of substantial screen time. He was hyped to be a threatening villain, and the writers used so little of him for no apparent reason. That isn’t to discredit Christian Bale because he actually killed it in the role. I loved his performance as Gorr, and he was a force to be reckoned with! It’s a crime that he had very little screen time, and killed only one god on-screen. He made tons of other kills but only off-screen. Why? Why would they do that? If we actually saw him kill more gods on-screen, I’m pretty certain people would love him a lot more.

Even though Jane Foster is one of my least favorite characters in the series (besides Natalie Portman also being one of my least favorite actresses), she was actually pretty good in this movie. In fact, she looked really badass as the Mighty Thor. I just wish that the seriousness of her sacrifice wouldn’t be undermined by the dumb humor in this film.

Oh, and the screaming goats were the funniest parts of the movie. Enough said.

Overall, I enjoyed the story, the character development, and the thrilling action scenes despite the issues it suffers from. For me, the positives outweigh the negatives, and I think people should honestly give it a chance with an open mind. I will rate this a solid 8/10!

Peace!

Thank this movie for introducing me to Sweet Child O Mine by Guns ‘n Roses.

I haven't seen this movie, but I'm willing to give it a chance regardless of the reputation it gained.

With all the negatives you pointed out, I think they're the very reasons as to why an extended version of this movie should be released once it comes to home video.

I've not seen the latest series on Disney+ - Moon Knight & Ms. Marvel - but I can get why people might be tired of Phase 4; it's been a water-treading phase. A transitional phase. That said...I might've liked the humor more than you but I definitely enjoyed the film overall.
