Elvis-Review (Spoilers) · 9:22pm Jun 26th, 2022
I thought that Elvis was a great film. The film was co-story written, co-written, produced, and directed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!; Romeo + Juliet; The Great Gatsby (2013)). The film was also co-story written by Jeremy Donor (Damages; The Killing; Legend of the Lost Tomb). The film was also written by Sam Bromell (The Get Down) and Craig Pearce (Moulin Rouge!; Romeo + Juliet; The Great Gatsby (2013). The film features great direction and writing, great performances, great soundtrack, great editing, great cinematography, great effects work, great costumes, great makeup, great sets, great themes. The film stars Austin But,er, Tom Hanks, Olivia DeJonge, Helen Thomson, Richard Roxburgh, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Xavier Samuel, David Wenham, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Luke Bracey.
The film follows the events of Rock n’ Roll legendary icon Elvis Presley (Butler)’s life and his relationship with his manager Col. Tom Parker (Hanks). Throughout his career he became well known for his music as well as being a film actor and the controversy that surrounded the former. Elvis faces many struggles throughout his life when it comes to his parents, Gladys and Vernon Presley (Thomson and Roxburgh), the passing of his mother, his drug abuse, health problems, getting into trouble for being himself and for speaking up his mind at a time when America and the world wasn’t peaceful, the later years of his married life with his wife Priscilla Presley (DeJonge), the seemingly never ending performances, and especially Col. Parker abusing his client’s fame and manipulating/controlling him for his own gain. Elvis would tragically pass away in 1977 at the age of 42 and people thinks that his manager played a heavy part in his death while he tells his side of the whole story and trying to convince us (the viewers) that that is not true.
The film deals with themes such as family, friendship, love, fame, trust, respect, dreams, honesty, lies, controversy, rebellion, change, racism, consequences, sacrifices, death, loss, tragedy, control, greed, scheming, drugs, selflessness/selfishness, betrayal, escape/no escape, downfall, rise, legacy. I highly recommend this film.
4 Stars out of 4 Stars.
