Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with another movie review for today! This afternoon, I will be reviewing Batman: Assault on Arkham! This is one of my favorite animated Batman movies to be honest; it contains great storytelling, awesome animation, solid character progression, and well-done action scenes. Ever since I first watched this, I was fascinated by its use of the famous characters in DC, especially some of Batman's foes from his Rogue Gallery. This whole movie, in fact, is a much more cohesive Suicide Squad movie than the live-action one from 2016. That alone tells me that most animated DC movies have more heart, soul, and passion being put into the story than the DCEU adaptions do. Anyway, let's get into the reasons why I love this movie.

This movie introduces the characters we all know and love: Deadshot, Harley Quinn, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang. It even includes Black Spider and Killer Frost into the group as well. They are recruited by Amanda Waller to help complete the missions given to them, while making sure they stay in line by having bombs within their heads. Meanwhile, Joker escapes from Arkham and manages to set his plan in motion whereas Batman uncovers what is going on.

I actually like Deadshot and Harley's dynamic relationship in this movie than in the 2016 version. Even though they didn't have too much going on between them, I still love how Harley always got on his nerves and tries to make him her new man. At least Deadshot doesn't treat her like an expendable object like how Joker does it. However, the sex scene between them was not really necessary as it was a little distracting from the plot. The story plot, not the...you know...

The voice acting is great as well. Kevin Conroy's voice as Batman will always be legendary, so I have nothing else to add there. Troy Baker, again, does a great job voicing Joker. I know for sure he will be an excellent successor to Mark Hamill as the voice of the Clown Prince of Crime in the same way Matthew Lillard became the new voice for Shaggy after the passing of Casey Kasem. As for King Shark, although I was pleased to hear John DiMaggio's voice for him, I hated his design. He simply doesn't look like a shark or at least resemble a shark and looks more like the animated series version of Killer Croc with metal choppers for teeth.

Harley Quinn is one of my favorite characters in this movie. I like how overly psychotic and violent she is in this film, while still maintaining the core aspect of her character. The writers wrote the toxic relationship between her and Joker very well here which sort of explains why she is so attached to Deadshot, provoking the jealous ex-boyfriend type of energy in Joker. Even though Hynden Walch was an interesting choice to voice her, I somehow couldn't take her too seriously as I kept hearing Starfire in her voice. I just can't imagine her voicing a deeply disturbed character with Stockholm Syndrome who was destined to be voiced by Tara Strong. But nonetheless, her voice wasn't that bad.

This movie felt like a Deadshot movie to me. We see his humanity, the daughter he has, what he has done, and what he is facing off against. I always liked him as an anti-heroic character than a villain to be honest. And seeing him fight against Joker was really satisfying too. Even though this movie has "Batman" as part of the title, he doesn't have that many scenes therein and isn't really about him. He's only in it whenever the plot demands it or when something strange is going on. Otherwise, this is more about Deadshot, and I love it as such.

So yeah, this movie was great although it has some flaws. I will give this a 9/10!

Peace!

Call me a dirty pervert, but my one complaint about the sex scene… is that it was too short!
