Greetings, everyone. This is Mr. J back with another TV show review for today. This evening, I will be reviewing Nickelodeon’s Wayside. This used to be another Nicktoon show I enjoyed watching as a kid along with the other cartoons I loved. I wasn’t a big fan of it per say, but it was definitely enjoyable back then. Ever since then, I haven’t seen it again for a long time. Now that I am much older, I decided to go back to this series a couple months ago to see if the sitcom series is as good as I remember. After watching several episodes thereof, I gotta say.....it is absolute trash.
This comedy series is based on Louis Sachar’s book with the same name which is about a boy going to a 30-story school where he meets new friends and teachers to have fun adventures with. Although I’ve never read the book, I can easily tell this show is far from being good than how I used to remember it being. It is just so damn cringeworthy!
Todd is one of the most boring boy protagonists I’ve ever seen in a cartoon. There is nothing unique or interesting about him in the slightest. He goes to this 30-story school building where he meets his instructors who all have brains of a donkey and a drug addict combined. Speaking of which, none of the other characters were amusing either. Do not get me started with that infuriating girl who was weirdly infatuated with Todd for almost a season. Their friendship is toxic at best and underdeveloped at worst. I don’t know how or why people ship them, but it is one of the most disgusting and dumbest ships I’ve ever seen. I hate that girl with a passion.
The voice acting is obnoxious and not in a fun or good way. None of them—not even some of my favorite ones stood out from the others as they had to sit through a god-awful script and comedy setting. No offense to any of them because they did their best, but I wish they had better voice direction.
Although the 2D animation looks pretty decent, it still doesn’t help the fact that it contains some of the most mediocre character models ever.
The comedy is just not funny whatsoever. It has slow pacing, awkward dialogue, cringeworthy jokes, and just overall bad delivery. Seriously, this show doesn’t appeal to me anymore like it used to especially since it has absolutely annoying comedy that is neither hilarious nor clever. As Galvatron would say, THIS IS BAD COMEDY! So there is nothing more I can say about this shitfest of a sitcom series. I personally give this a 0/5: YOU STINK!!!
