Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with more The Owl House content! This evening, I will be reviewing the fourth episode of season 2 entitled: “Keeping Up A-fear-ances”. I honestly never imagined seeing Eda and Lilith’s mother actually appear in this series since it’s quite rare for parental figures (especially the good types) to show up alive in a property belonging to Disney. Now it makes me wonder where their father has been all this time. Anyway, this episode was pretty good as we got to see not just their mother showing up on screen but also see some character development from both her and Lilith in particular.

Here we see that her mother is trying her best to rid the curse from Eda—and primarily focuses on her like she always did while paying less attention to Lilith. All the while makes the latter upset and depressed that the former never once gives her the same love and care Eda has gotten. But once things take an ugly turn, Gwendolyn manages to express her best motherly love to both Eda and Lilith equally.

This shows us just how a mother can go to any length to save her child and care for her child by any means necessary even if she doesn’t know what she’s doing. It was also nice to see King reminiscing about his father and imagining what he thinks of him now. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m starting to notice just how almost every character in this show is suffering from parental issues or mommy issues. While it is not a bad idea in itself, it’s starting to get a little old and overused at this point. While this show does it somewhat better, it can get tiring to see nearly everyone suffer from parental issues. Besides, a character can have that type of problem, but if they have little to no substance behind their personality, background, and motivations, it just becomes poorly-written in the long run.

So aside from that little nitpick, this was a pretty fun episode albeit not entirely amazing as the previous episodes were. So I’ll give this a B+!

Peace!
