My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic: franchise ranking: part 2: middle tier · 9:23am Jan 6th, 2022

This next portion of my ranking consists of the more middle tier entries of this series, but as previously stated, i like and or love everything about the show, so theres nothing i go negative on here, with that said, lets continue the ranking.

#18: MLP FIM: Season 6: The one big positive ill say about this season right off the bat is that, they do a terrific job with starlight glimmer, say what you will about the redeeming the villain trope this franchise does admittedly way too often, starlight glimmer had the best journey in the show as far as redeemed villains go, sunset shimmer, trixie and princess luna being the other exceptions, everytime she was on screen, it was the whole, everytime they talk i listened kinda deal, and the finale, fantastic, as most premieres and finales are, but i digress, everything else this season, seemed kinda, slow, after all the momentum season 5 put out, with the emotional weight, and so forth, this felt like an odd change of pace, nothing that did our characters dirty or broke lore, it just simply felt too slow for my liking

#17: EQG: The Legend Of Everfree: For the final film, so to speak, not a bad way to end things, by big thing with this film though was the lack of focus on sunset shimmer, Rainbow Rocks seemed to be hinting that she would be more of a leading protagonist going forward, and it was amazing, and while friendship games did ok with giving her a big enough arc, the characterization in this film seemed all over the place, like, who was the MAIN character, one moment its twilight worrying about not being able to control her powers, then its about sunset shimmer and her journey, they're all done good in the film, i just wish the film had a clearer narrative focus

#16: MLP FIM: Season 7: Before the show came to an end with season 9, i found this to be the best of the post season 4 or (classic era) of the show if thats what you wanna call it, the highlight of this season i find to be just how much focus and development a lot of side characters get, big mac falling for sugar belle, trixie and starlight’s friendship becoming more meaningful, which it already had been in the beginning, but i digress, the Flurry Of Emotions episode is a highlight, The Perfect Pear is such a powerhouse of emotional weight, romance and tragedy all mixed into a perfectly structured and paced 22 minutes, if youre one who hasnt teared up yet before watching this episode, then you will after seeing it, almost guaranteed

#15: EGQ Rollercoaster Of Friendship: Hmmm….A Rarity focused special, which if yall dont know, rarity (and spike) are my favorite characters in the franchise, not for THAT reason, but i digress, this was one of the better specials, a more interesting premise than the mirror magic special, and rarity and applejack’s friendship is tested in a rather intriguing way despite the obvious outcome.
Grade: B+

#14: EQG: Spring Breakdown: A solid special overall aside from the side joke with applejack being seasick, and rainbow dash outwardly looking for trouble, i get what they were going storywise and it did lead to the payoff we got by the end of the special, but just felt a but off all the same, and as someone who adores the 2017 film more than most, i really enjoyed the storm king callbacks, while the series didn't acknowledge as many elements from the film as i would’ve hoped i think this was one of the better times that it did happen.
Grade: A

#13: EQG: Friendship Games: Following up Rainbow Rocks was never gonna be an easy task, but i feel they did an adequate job here, i would've liked for the focus to mainly stay on sunset shimmer like last time, but i think they made up for it by the end, with her helping this world’s twilight sparkle, or “sci-twi” as shes being named, back into the light, Principal Cinch is probably the weakest of the EQG antagonists, but not a bad character all the same, and it is satisfying to see her one upped at the end.
