The short bit I used that I need help with isn't the story, it's for the prologue.
I know this is late and I only just saw this, but here is some help for the future:
Um, maybe she escaped by having a gift like Fluttershy to be let out of a cage of a dense forest-y area and the Timberwolves could not get past the thorns or heat from something on the other side of the Everfree Forest. Maybe they held her so long by using another animal like a Kelpie or something else with mind control powers to keep her there when she could have easily escaped and something broke the spell. Maybe she is a weak or young pony and could not escape, maybe due to poisonous plants, terrain, thorns, or dangerous beasts being around the area. Those are my ideas for your story.
