Bring the Dawn! · 5:06am Dec 31st, 2021
Heya!~ If you're reading this post, you either do or don't know that I've been working on a novel for a bit. A lot of you may know that I'm a fast author. I typically write out 2-3 chapters a day, when I have the mood and energy to do so. Which, for Verve and Inertia, I had for... two months straight.
That momentum carried a little bit into my new novel, Bring the Dawn, which is actually is own standalone work. Yep. It's not a fanfic. It's an actual original story!... That's taking 10x longer to write.
I've had to basically build a world, new magic system, and lore from scratch. This includes roughly several races worth of history, magical history, and content that covers more than I can really give to you in a single blog post. It takes its roots from a variety of sources, but for those who enjoy the pony aesthetic, it focuses on deer - which you can find my first tampering with in Verve.
It also includes humans, wolf-like humanoids, hog-like humanoids, plant-like humanoids, dragon-like humanoids, gnomes (two types from the same origin), and other races of creatures found across the wilds and world. I even doodled up a rough temporary map to function as a resource to work off of for my story. You can find a link to it here.
Keep in mind that this map is basically extremely rough. A better version will be created later to suit my needs. Also keep in mind that I'm okay with reusing some odd names here and there.
I've also decided on an artist to commission for the cover art, which would include what deer typically look like. In fact, he's drawn deer before, and is a talented pony artist! I just need to finish the first book before making contact with him. I'll give you a hint on who I want to commission. Best guess gets a pat on the back! Or you could just check the url on this.
The writing is much slower, as the content is much more demanding to produce. I'm having to build everything from the ground up; it's much harder in a fantasy world, where new concepts require explanation. I want my work to be in equal parts lore-infused, comedic, fun, adventurous, but also dangerous and stressful, as expected. I also have ideas to speak with Seth over on Equestria Daily, once I have the story published. I'm thinking either a traditional publisher (after a few months of self reviewing) if I can.
Additionally, I won't include any type of lewd ideas in my writing. That's... best saved for non-publishable works.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about my new story, let me know! There's a lot to cover, and I've been scant on the details. I'm currently working on chapter 20 of (expected) 40, each chapter being 9-10 pages long (over Verve's 7-8 page average). But I wouldn't be shocked if I stretched into 50, or even 60 chapters for the first book alone.
From my work in Verve, I hope I can achieve that same sense of a grand adventure, but that would mostly be the theme of the second book, as the first book is set up for the world and story. (I plan on writing at least three.)
