Good afternoon, everyone. This is Mr. J back with another movie review for today. This afternoon, I will be talking about what I think of DC's 2019 film called Shazam! Before I review this movie, I want to make something clear first of all: Shazam has never been one of my favorite superheroes in the DC universe. He never once stood out to me as a character; even after watching this movie personally, he has... honestly become one of my least favorite characters in DC. Words cannot perfectly express how much I hate this piece of crap. This is honestly one of the worst DCEU movies I have ever watched which is unsurprisingly just as bad as Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. It has so many things therein that makes me so annoyed and baffled in regards to the plot, acting, characters, and the choreography.

Let's start with the plot, shall we? It makes little to no sense whatsoever as it unravels these ridiculous concepts and spouts all sorts of nonsensical lines of dialogue. An ancient wizard who goes by the name of Shazam is looking for a warrior of purity, righteousness, and goodness to bear his name and to withstand the Seven Deadly Sins who were imprisoned under his watch. The very first thing he does is test a troubled child... who somehow fails the test of greed because only the pure in heart could lay hold on the ancient orb of power. Guess what? That same child grows up to be a power-hungry man who sneaks his way back to the lair and actually steals that same orb and absorbs the power thereof... freeing the Seven Sins in the process.

I had to mentally facepalm at the inconsistency of that scene. How the hell did he touched that orb without getting zapped like years ago?? First, you say that only the pure in heart could touch the orb, but now, as a grown man who LUSTS for power, he touches it without any problem. This is one of the most blatant signs of asinine writing and the writers being drunk while writing the script.

Then you have the main character named Billy Batson whom the movie wastes no time in making me hate him so much. He is the actual candidate to be the Shazam the wizard is looking for, yet he is nothing more than a trouble-maker, a liar, a selfish, moody, rude, sarcastic little brat who has mommy issues. How is he pure in heart again? It was stupid in the comics, and it is stupid here. Because realistically speaking, nobody is perfect which also goes for every superhero in the fictional world (Marvel or DC). Perfection isn't something one can easily attain, and it is not something you often see in the world either. So I not only hate this movie but also the premise and the whole concept behind Shazam as an overall character.

Also, notice how the personality instantly changes whenever he turns into Shazam; he is quiet, moody, and causal as a kid, but he is talkative, even more irritating, and an extrovert as a grown man. Consistency? What's that?

Do not get me started with the acting in this movie. The majority of the actors didn't look like they were putting their utmost effort to be genuine in their acting. The choreography was decent to a degree but it really didn't make up for the laughable acting and the poorly-written script for this movie.

The only character whom I legit enjoyed watching on screen was the villain. Mark Strong appeared to be the only one who took his role seriously and put his effort to be very convincing. Dr. Sivana is probably one of those DC villains who have potential to appear more in DC live-action adaptions. He stole every scene he was in and was definitely showing himself to be a force to be reckoned with. I understood his clear-as-day motivations, I was impressed with his lines of dialogue even if some of them were cliche, and he was an overall fun character. It isn't saying much though.

Overall, this movie left a bad taste in my mouth. I hate the acting, the main and secondary characters (especially that crippled kid who was excruciatingly cringe-worthy and annoying), the story, and Shazam himself. I give this worthless garbage a 2/10. If it weren't for the mid-credit scene where Mr. Mind talks to Sivana in the prison, I would have stayed away from any installment involving Shazam altogether. Even if the sequel will prove to be "better" than this film, I would only dislike (not hate) it for having one of my least favorite characters on the big screen. If you like Shazam as a character and this movie, good for you. This is just my opinion after all.

Peace.

Rookies, am I right?

Well, the movie is not great, I do like the idea Shazam since it always good to have a character be different and in term of power in DC. Shazam superpower is in my top 10 favorite DC power. But the character need work on
