This day marks exactly one year since my mothers passing. I still feel down even though its been a full year.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my mother on the 3 of October 2021. The thing you get it an understanding of is you can never ask them about their life and hear how they lived it. Never question their opinions or ask again on a piece of information they told you that just slipped your mind. Ask about family that they knew about that no one else knows. It's a real horrible thing. The last interactions are the most precious and painful. I can sympathize with your loss and it's tragedy. I can only suggest writing anything down that you think can tell the story of your mother. I basic run down of her family memories and her life, schooling, funny stories, etc and leave them for the next generation or other family members or even with a archival society in the city you live. Either city or state should take them. You are coming up to the 2nd anniversary of your mothers passing while I'm coming up to the 1st. I'll be leaving a message in the newspapers obituary section or memorial section about her as she didn't want anyone to know of her passing at the time. I hope you have some good memories of her and others have them too.
