Hello, hello, hello, pumpkin pies! This is Mr. J here with another movie review for today! Since we are now in October, I believe it’s time to take a look at a few Halloween-themed films for this month as everyone here is apparently now in a spooky mood. So why not take a look at a few of these movies and see how that goes? My first one I want to talk about is the first part of the film adaption taken from the source material called Batman: The Long Halloween. I wasn’t honestly excited to see this two-part installment of the story, but my curiosity moved me to give them a watch.

After seeing these movies last week, I was both amused and impressed with the way they wrote the characters and the plot. Despite that I’ve never read the BTLH comic book, this still captivated my interest and thought it was both very entertaining. For part one, this movie was overall serviceable.

It wasn’t as satisfying and thrilling as part two, but it was still pretty good to look at. The story was both unpredictable, intriguing, well-written, and enjoyable. However, the pacing felt kinda slow here and there. The dialogue between characters were well-voiced although oddly delivered during a few scenes.

Here we have a dangerous serial killer on the loose killing members of the crime boss named Carmine Falcone on each holiday. Hence why the killer is named Holiday. The Batman must find a way to discover the mystery behind the killings and be prepared to stop Holiday. However, The Joker has plans of his own as he spreads chaos and destruction wherever he goes in Gotham.

Troy Baker does an immensely great job voicing The Clown Prince of Crime. He does an equally awesome job as does Mark Hamill. Joker was the best part for this movie obviously, so it was definitely worth enjoying and watching.

Batman was also a great character in this movie. This is the Dark Knight in his first early years of crime-fighting which is why he isn’t much of a detective at this point. Regardless, he is portrayed as cautious, diligent, resourceful, and yet stoic as he should. Plus, Jensen Ackles did a great job voicing Batman in this and in the second film. It’s always nice to hear someone other than Kevin Conroy voicing the Dark Knight.

I also enjoyed Josh Duhamel’s voice as Harvey Dent and David Dastmalchian as Calendar Man. Both voice actors were a terrific choice to voice them, and the characters themselves were both funny and entertaining to see on screen. Dastmalchian is making a name for himself in the DC universe, isn’t he?

Even though the animation wasn’t top-notch for me, I still enjoyed the first part that set up everything so perfectly and ended with a well-put cliffhanger. Oh, and this may be my favorite version of Carmine Falcone so far. I was never a fan of the character until I watched this. The characterization and personality they gave him is what won me over. That alone says something.

Therefore, I will give this beginning part an 8/10. Stay tuned for my review for part two on Wednesday.

Peace!
