My favorite films seen in 2023.

My favorite films I've watched in 2023.

    1. The Philadelphia Story (1940) - When a rich woman's ex-husband and a tabloid-type reporter turn up just before her planned remarriage, she begins to learn the truth about herself. (This movie has a very good cast. I very much enjoyed seeing this.)

Happy Thanksgiving, and I present you all with a song.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

And the song I am going to link you all is a holiday tune, but that season is close enough.

Mistletoe Kiss Polka (1949) - Margaret Whiting and The Mellomen

101 Horror Movies - Part One.

I picked up a book titled "101 Horror Movies You Must See Before You Die" yesterday. I will break up my thoughts into a series of posts.
The book is set up by decades, so today I’ll cover every film it mentions from before the 1930s. (The copyright of the book is 2009.)

    The 1910s and 1920s:

Turner Classic Movies (Updated. Posting regular schedule updates in comments here.) · 5:08pm Sep 30th, 2021

It is almost October, which means Spooky Season is really getting started. And Turner Classic Movies will be starting their "Monster Of The Month" for 2021.

So, time to bring back the TCM schedule overview. This weekend’s line-up (starting at Noon-ish Eastern today).

Thursday September 30th:
1:45 PM – The Innocents (1961) – A young governess for two children becomes convinced that the house and grounds are haunted. (This is a personal recommendation. It’s a really slow-burn, psychological film. I gave it an 8 out of 10 on IMDB.)
3:45 PM – Tea And Sympathy (1956)
6 PM – Black Narcissus (1947)
8 PM – An Affair To Remember (1957)
10:15 PM – The Grass Is Greener (1961)

Friday:
12:15 AM – From Here To Eternity (1953)
2:30 AM – Quo Vadis (1951)
5:30 AM – MGM Parade Show #19 (1955)
6 AM – King Kong (1933) – Classic film.
8 AM – The Most Dangerous Game (1932) – Also good.
9:15 AM – The Vampire Bat (1933) – Underrated horror gem imo. Fay Wray and Dwight Frye are both worth a watch.
10:30 AM – The Testament Of Dr. Mabuse (1933) – This film is strange and it kept me enthralled. The Nazis did not care for this movie.
12:45 PM – White Zombie (1932) – Bela Lugosi, mind-control, and voodoo zombies. This is a horror classic.
2 PM – Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (1932) – This is one version of the classic novel I have not seen yet.
3:45 PM – Mystery Of The Wax Museum (1933) – This classic tale was later re-made twice. Fay Wray stars here and this is an early color film. Another recommendation.
5:15 PM – Dr. X (1932)
6:45 PM – Freaks (1932) – Hoo boy, this is at the top of the "Could never be re-made today" list. If you haven’t seen it, then you should.
8 PM – The Bad News Bears (1976) – I like this movie. Must be Walter Matthau night.
10 PM – Harold And Maude (1971)
11:45 PM – Black Sunday (1977)

This Friday line-up on TCM is ridiculously stacked and will be a great way to get into classic genre cinema.
I’ll post Saturday and Sunday’s overview tomorrow morning.

2:45 PM – Night of the Lepus (1972) – Doctor McCoy Vs Giant Killer Bunnies! The ending is…oh boy. PETA would not be pleased.
4:30 PM – The Killer Shrews (1959) – Watch the MST3K version of this.
6:15 PM – Them! (1954) – This is a classic, must-see 0s monster movie. "THEM! THEM! THEM!"
Then a night of Japanese films….Never seen these. (I presume they are Japanese. Definitely Asian from the cast.)
8 PM – Crazed Fruit (1956)
9:45 PM – One Way Ticket to Love (1960)
11:15 PM – The Weird Love Makers (1960)

Wednesday, October 27th:
12:45 AM – The Sun’s Burial (1960) – The run of Japanese films continues.
2:30 AM – The Insect Woman (1963) – Another Asian film. Not a horror, despite the title.
4:45 AM – The Face of Another (1966) – So a Japanese (?) film about a guy disfigured and now wearing a mask.
I just want to add that I appreciate Turner Classic Movies consistently showing films many in the U.S. would not have seen (or even heard of).
Now back to old school Hollywood
7 AM – This Marriage Business (1938)
8:15 AM – Crashing Hollywood (1938)
9:30 AM – The Hard Way (1942)
11:30 AM – Two Guys from Texas (1948)
1 PM – April Showers (1948)
2:45 PM – High Flyers (1938)
4 PM – Shine on Harvest Moon (1944)
6 PM – So You Want to Be in Pictures (1947) – Short film.
6:15 PM – Mr. and Mrs. Smith (1941) – One of Alfred Hitchcock’s early films after he came to Hollywood. I think it’s fine.
8 PM – Carl Laemmle (2019) – A documentary about the old Universal Studio Head.
9:45 PM – Dracula (1931) – One of those ‘must see’ films for people delving into film history. Especially horror film history.
11:15 PM – All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) – I checked a VHS of this out of my high school library. Teenage me thought it was a damn fine film.

"Them!" is a very strong recommend, esp for Spooky Season.

Also, if anybody is reading these and wants me to continue, please let me know.
