MLP: A New Generation - Personal Review · 11:55pm Sep 24th, 2021
The movie arrived, after tons of leaks and crazy theories through years, designs and people complaining with no reason at all, just spitting random thing about it and... look at it now, at the moment of writing this it has 100% on Rotten Tomaotes with 92% approval and 7.3 score on IMDb; does these numbers tell the truth. I'm going to give my personal opinion on the movie and quick warning, there will be a bit of spoilers (not a lot, but a few) that will be hidden with the Spoiler tag, just hover over this and look by your own risk.
Plot: As we all know, they present Equestria again many moons later and all Ponies aren't friends anymore, but a earth pony named Sunny Starscout after meeting Izzy Moonbow; a unicorn, she believes that everypony can be friends again.
Straight foward with it, it's simple as we're used to. A simple plot that presents a far on the future Equestria, this can be told with references like Horns and Harry Trotter aswell with technology advances, you can also tell it's future Equestria by mentions to Celestia and Twilight, but not directly by their names. But being simple does help, makes newcomers comfortable and for us that went all 9 seasons of G4 not tired of it; but misteries are there and no answer provided at any point... yet maybe
Characters:
I'll focus on the main cast mainly, the Mane 5 we can call them i think.
- Sunny Starscout: I like her, and obviously as protagonist we needed a sun/star/shine related name. Like her design, her voice and development trhough the story. My only question is on the end, she has a shiny pair of wings and a horn, that means she's chosed as a some kind of new princess? Time will tell
- Izzy Moonbow: Personal Favorite, i declare myself as a huge fan of Izzy, design, voice, overall Izzy makes me happy, smily. I just can't hate her and i have absolutely nothig bad to say about her; except one question: Why she lives almost outside of the woods and no with the other unicorns?
- Hitch Trailblazer (eyup, that's his full name): Overall ok, pretty standard for a male character, voice acting was pretty good; but that's it. He just presents a bit of Ego, but nothing too big like Trixie or Rainbow Dash from FIM
- Pipp Petals: Well... she's there as sister of Zipp. Don't get me wrong; she's nice but is there for just a few moments where she does something (Helps Sunny with a Dancing Duel and with one of the cristals they "needed") and i think she could shine more and if they do she can have tons of fans behind her. One good point, she at least has a better design than Zipp.
- Zipp Storm: She had bigger spotlight than Pipp and that made her shine more, ironically because Pipp is supose to be the shiny one like Rarity was. Zipp may look like Rainbow Dash in design; which is a bit cooler than any other pony, she actually has a totally better personality (I'm sorry Dash fans, she has ego and i can barely like Rainbow) and a totally better design, still behind Pipp.
- Overall rest of characters: Most of them were good, you can relate to some, laugh with other and some you just want to get out of the screen as soon as possible; sorry Queen Haven, that's for you.
The characters are the important thing of a movie/show, they have the responsability to keep the audience watching every second, with these characters, 99% of the time it's done and you won't lose any second staying focused to them and their story.
Other things:
- Animation: Well detailed; cristals, grass, clouds and manes are gorgeous. The detail and everything about it it's absolutely stunning, remember the tennis ball on Izzy's horn? Well that's also well done, it moves smoothly and doesn't feel heavy at any point; including lighting and shadows.
- Humor/Jokes/However you call them now: This was my biggest fear, because usually the humor changes when something is made for other viewers, so i though they would evolve with it or go a bit back; they stayed with the G4 humor slightly differently but still very good and possible to laugh at.
So, is it better than G4? Yes, in it's own way; G4 was also good on it's way and after almost 11 years is still enjoyable. G5 can create a new gen of bronies that may watch G4 and may even like it more. G4 lasted for 9 seasons and the EG's specials, and i hope that G5 gets a series and lasts as long as possible. My score for this movie is a well earned: 9/10!
Give it a chance, don't be close of mind like we all been when G4 came up, because accept it; you also called it once a "Little Girls Show".
Now being quick, i'm still writing the stories and hope i can bring them soon. See ya; hooves to the heart!
