Writing and Ego · 10:51pm Sep 1st, 2021
Since I'm no longer posting regularly, as I am moving or trying to move, I figured I'd show you all what I've been watching and what my process is.
And maybe, just maybe, inspire some of you to write your own story. So once a week, I am gonna post a video link and talk about what I derived from it.
Today I'd like to talk about Ego.
This discusses screenwriting but it works very well for writing Fanfics and your own original stories as well.
Now I listen to all sorts of stuff. But this one I just listened to today sums up my thoughts on writing and how it effected me.
Ego, manifests itselfs in some of the worst ways. It can and will pull us down, mostly because we want it perfect, especially when we do it ourselves.
One of the reasons I first started writing, was ego.
"I can do this so much better."
It was a common thought as I read through various stories on here, and that was not fair.
I didn't really realize how unfair it was till I actually started writing myself. And as I looked back on my old work as I rewrite, I realize, as I started to then, that I was so very wrong.
That was my ego talking. And I apologize, that was unworthy of me or you whom I judged.
And I paid that price with sleepless nights and frustrated deletions. I drove myself crazy because I wanted it perfect, and I wasn't achieving it.
Mr Mowery is correct. We have to take ourselves out of our writing. It's never gonna be perfect. (As proof, look at me rewriting my entire first book) If you can't figure it out at the time, don't let the details bog ya down.
I put in a place holder, Google Docs has a little note system that is handy, with a brief description of what I was trying to do and then I move on. During the second, and sometimes third rewrite I manage to fix it up. The frustration doesn't build up, I let go.
And when we go back, holy sh*t. I hate rewriting anything, much less 200k in words, but it is important that we get out what we mean. A big problem I've had in the past is when I write, I know what's going on, but my audience doesn't. You guys are blind to my reasoning. A rewrite allows me to correct that, and make sure you all understand where I am going with the story.
That's why it's so important to be able to rewrite, fix it in your mind you're already going to do it. Know that as fact.
And to his last point, you have to be willing to structure it all out beforehand, have an idea of what you want to accomplish.
Some of the greatest stories we know of, started out as completely different. Take Star Wars for instance. It started out with Han Solo as some sort of lizard person. Vader never had his iconic look. The original story was so different to what it is now.
Be willing to change with the tide your story goes in.
That's enough from me, please give the video a listen if you got the time. And I hope it helps those of you starting out, and maybe some of you vets as well. I'm still relatively green myself but I find it does remind me why I'm writing in the first place.
Expect next week another Blog like this.
I'm still writing no fears there.
Thank you all for reading,
Peace!
P.S. I'd love to hear from you all as well, those that made it this far, on what you think as well. What have been your experiences? What have you tried, and then brained yourself over?
It be cool to write my own story but writing was never my strong suit I had problems with
1) run on sentences
2) putting my period quotation marks etrc...
3) I'm probably missing other things in writing that I'm missing
4) 1st/3rd person pov
I'm probably missing more

Gotta start somewhere. I chose ego first for a reason, there is the; "I'd love to do it, but I'm not good enough and I have no skill in it".
It's not a shame on you, but I'd like to remind you that we get in our own way. You can write a story. Anyone can. You just have to commit time and effort to learning, and charting out your tale.
Just gotta be willing to rewrite that tale a few dozen times.
If ya noticed in my story, I started out really bad. I got better. I learned and I will start posting vids I think will help others.
Hang in there!

There really wasn't anything bad about about your stories but I do applauded you on willing to redo a chapter that you feel wasn't flowing with what u originally planned for the story and I'm thankful that you're willing to redo your story to take the fun story to another level which I love
