    Check In

    Afternoon/evening folks!

Sorry I haven't been checking in as often as I should; rest assured I'm not dead, I'm still here, just been silent as of late. Still working on fics, but also constantly debating with myself on what to focus on next, wanted to make some new stuff that isn't just Shattered or Star Wars. Wanna bring more folks in, do somethin' new.

    Top Ten Films/Series Of 2023/Reflections

First off, Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

Hard to believe another year has passed, hasn't it? *sighs* how time has flown by. A lot's happened this year; more stories, more creativity and entertainment has come, and I've learned more about myself, and I am very glad for that.

Quickie Reviews · 10:22pm Jul 25th, 2021

I apologize for not updating as much as I should. Been feelin' kinda drained these past few weeks. I have been keeping up the writing, I assure you. Also hai everyone! How is all of you this fine Sunday?

As long as we're here, I figured I'd make some quickie reviews. I wanna put together some concrete ones, but I'm feeling kinda out of it. So I figured I'd make some quickie reviews of stuff I've seen to at the very least catch you all up on what I've been seeing.

Also just throwing this out here, heavy bias, but you knew that going in. If some of you don't like these movies/shows, that's perfectly fine, it's not for everyone. We're all entitled to like what we like, and what we don't like. Now with that said, let's get right into it!

Star Wars: Resistance

Ehhhhhhhh.... uggggg... *sighs* This could have been good. This could have been really good. I don't know what happened here. Well, okay I think a few factors played into this. Not helped by the fact that it's release timing was the worst time possible, as people were still trying to recuperate after the insanity that followed the Last Jedi and Solo. So releasing it within that same year wasn't the best idea, not helped matters either that the premiere date was going to be at 10 PM... when children are sleeping. On Sunday. ... Really bungled up the timing there, executives.

But what is actually good about the show? ... Believe me I tried finding something. Ehh... okay once in a while something interesting happens with the characters. Hmm... some of the designs of the in-universe decals are cool. I do appreciate the fact that arcades now exist, that's awesome. While the show is colorful, it's honestly fine with me, it's way more colorful than... *sighs* you know what I'm going to say. And I appreciate the fact that original and prequel aliens still exist, as opposed to the films which act like suddenly those pre-existing species just suddenly don't exist anymore. Thank you makers for that, I appreciate it. At the very least, it tries to make it feel like it's still a part of that universe. Although it still fails on that department. Oh, and one episode we did get the return of battle droids, so that's awesome.

And now everything that I absolutely loathe about it. The main character is annoying, obnoxious, irritating, frankly I don't understand why I'm supposed to like him. His friends, companions, they're either equally or more annoying, one-dimensional, cliche, or just not that interesting. Even though I guarantee you I am more interested in more interesting looking characters than others. *cough* Bo Keevil *ack!* Sorry, where was I? Oh yeah. Top it all off that the animation, while smooth as butter (certainly smoother than Robots in Disguise from 2015), it's not... ehh, I don't know. Something about it feels off. I remember hearing it was advertised as being anime inspired (if I'm correct, I could be wrong)... and that's absolute bull, there's nothing anime inspired about this at all. Plot lines are also not super interesting either. I know this show is aimed at younger viewers but... you guys could have tried to make something out of this. It feels... I don't know. By-the-numbers, generic, like I've seen this kind of show before but done better if that makes sense.

I don't know if this was cause Dave Filoni was under contract, or if there were executives meddling with everything and leering over the creative teams, but I think it's safe to assume everybody knows that something went horribly wrong. You know a show goes wrong when the only thing that happens in the two-parter pilot is some idiot spreading rumor about a guy being the 'greatest pilot evar' and then losing a race at the end.

Honestly guys, don't waste your time. I'm sure the makers tried, but it's not good. And don't tell me that it's 'just for kids', just cause something is for children doesn't mean you have the right to not try. I say stick with Clone Wars and Rebels. Especially Rebels, it's pretty good.

Fear Street; 1994, 1978, and 1666

Holy shit, I love this :rainbowkiss: I watched these movies a day at a time, they just caught my attention and honestly? I got into it! I got some Stranger Things vibes, if Stranger Things took a turn into more darker territory. Not a bad thing mind you, it works fairly well for this mini-movie series. They've got great cinematography, a great antagonist(s) believe me we got a variety of them, and even our main characters were likable, I was rooting for them all the way. Some more than others, but it made me wanna see where it went and see our heroes come out on top. I'm not gonna give everything away, or really anything, but it's a great horror series. If I had to name anything I had issue with, it's honestly cause there's one character in the 78 timeline that I reaaallly wish had some proper comeuppance. Sure the movie showed it, but I wanted them to get arrested or bite the dust, come on movie. You don't just have this teenage sociopath deliberately get ready to set a girl on fire and don't have her arrested or killed... But aside from that, I recommend giving this movie series a watch. If you got Netflix, it's worth the watch.

The Big Lebowski

... Holy shit. I finally understand why so many people love this movie. I don't know what it is, something about this movie is just amazing. I love the characters, I love the story, the comedy had me laughing hard. And I was really interested in this strange mystery/crime element as well, I wanted to know what was going to happen and what was building up to it. The only thing I'll admit I didn't like was, admittedly from everything I heard, I thought Steve Buscemi was going to be in it more. But he still did solid with every scene he was in, and I love the interactions with Jeff, Walter, and Donny, best parts of the movie, period. Give this movie a watch, you'll have a lot of fun with it.

"Has the whole world gone CRAZY!? Am I the only around here who gives a shit about the rules!?" -- Walter

Tucker and Dale Vs Evil

This might have to be one of the greatest comedies ever made, I cannot recall the last time I laughed so hard. This is how you subvert/deconstruct a genre properly. It basically follows two simple country guys, they just bought a cabin, and despite the disturbing and shady implications of what it used to be, they still find a way to make it better and in good spirits! And then all the sudden these college idiots start killing themselves all over their properly over a miscommunication.. and it only escalates from there. I just love this so much, it's just two normal guys trying to do a regular thing, and then these idiots kill themselves all over the property:rainbowlaugh:

"This is a suicide pact. These kids are coming out here and they're killing themselves all over the woods!"

"Oh my god, that makes so much sense..."

Best. Logic. Ever. :rainbowlaugh: Honestly I wish we have more horror movies like this, that put these kind of spins on horror tropes. I know Cabin in the Woods makes fun of your standard slasher, and I did have fun with that one. Also makes for a fun bit of thinking on how every horror movie ever could be applied with that movie. But seriously though, give Tucker and Dale a watch, it's just glorious.

And that's all I got for today. I'mma try and write some more, hopefully get something done this week or today. Til then, hope ya'll have a great afternoon!
