Greetings to you all! Time for another movie review coming from yours truly! This afternoon, I will be addressing my thoughts on yet another Christopher Nolan film by the name of The Prestige from 2006. I must say that this film is really enjoyable and highly interesting as it covers a tale of two particular magicians who are rivals towards one another. As they seek to dominate the other, only one will come out on top at the end. This concept and storyline was actually well done in my opinion and it shows us how dangerous and even deadly one’s revenge and obsession can consume their soul and lead him to a path of destruction, making irrational decisions.

I was really impressed by the acting performances of both Hugh Jackman as Robert Angier and Christian Bale as Alfred Borden. Michael Caine was likewise excellent in his supporting role as Cutter, and it was also really nice seeing Scarlett Johansson playing a love interest in this story which would greatly affect the dynamic rivalry between Angier and Borden. Their acting performances were the best parts of the movie for me.

From what I got out of this film, especially around the ending and the surprise twist, it shows us how following one’s obsession and lust for revenge can harm their own lives and ultimately lead them to death through one way or another. It’s a great lesson that Christopher Nolan and Johnathan Nolan teaches us.

If there are some things I didn’t like in the movie, it would be the slow pacing, the average cinematography, and some of the minor characters that were a bit uninteresting and even boring. The visual effects were decent though but not that great. Those are the only negatives I can think of.

In my opinion, this film is not as good as The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, and Tenet. Considering the negatives I just listed, this might be my least favorite Christopher Nolan movie out of them all. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean I don’t like it or hate it. In fact, I still think it’s a pretty good movie due to the intriguing story and the fascinating main characters and the lessons it shows the audience.

With that being said, I will officially give it a 7/10. As I said, it is a movie with flaws but still has an enjoyable plot with interesting characters for viewers to sit through.

Peace!

*Gasps* I never thought you would comment on a Christopher Nolan movie review that isn't The Dark Knight Trilogy. You've seen this movie before? :pinkiegasp:

You heard of the movie 'The Fog'?

Personally, I wasn’t impressed with this movie at all.

I thought that the acting was great, especially that of Michael Caine as John Cutter and David Bowie as Nikola Tesla. But, outside of the two I mentioned, the characters were openly unlikable, and the developments of Angier, Borden, and Olivia were wasted thanks to the direction the three of them were getting taken in. Instead of the film teaching that revenge and obsession were things that no one should follow, it seemed to be saying the opposite of that. Especially to where it felt like the movie held no moral value at all, which became apparent because of the twist ending.

After looking it up, I have zero interest in it. Not for my tastes anyway.
