Hello there, guys. Tonight, I will be reviewing the sequel to the first Equestria Girls film: Rainbow Rocks. From what I can tell, this is praised by many fans as an improvement over the first one and considered to be a favorite amongst the EG fandom. To some extent, I can agree to that. However, the story still felt boring and lacking in some ways and didn’t really appeal to me that much. This is just my personal opinion, and if you love it (if you have seen this movie, that is), good for you.

First of all, the one thing I can actually give Rainbow Rocks credit for is the character progression of Sunset Shimmer as she was just previously reformed by Twilight. Here, we see that she had indeed suffered consequences of her actions and is hated by almost the whole school because of the negative influence she spread as a bully. It took a lot of time and effort for her to make up for what she had done and tried her best to be a better person. Wow, how come the rest of the majority of the villains in both this series and in the main show failed to follow this criteria? Because if there is one thing this franchise is infamous for: it’s the unearned, repetitive redemptions of villains/antagonists who were poorly developed in terms of motivation and character and got a sloppy redemption because FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC!

Sunset is one of the very few villains who got a proper redemption arc. As I already said, she grew from a forgettable villain to a fan-favorite protagonist. I actually liked seeing this in this film and in the next.

The story itself wasn’t that bad of a concept, but it wasn’t all highly intriguing either. Rainbow Dash in particular was honestly very annoying in this one especially when it came to her saying “her” band and stuff like that. This is just coming from someone who never liked Rainbow Dash to begin with because of her ego, narcissism, and arrogance... plus, stupidity. Yes, I said it. Don’t @ me.

Now, I am going to talk about the new villains in this who are likewise a fan-favorite and the most well-known villains of Equestria Girls: the Dazzlings. I will talk of them one by one.

Adagio Dazzle is honestly my least favorite of the trio. I do appreciate how she is very calculating, menacing, cunning, smart, manipulative, evil, and sadistic she is and she always remained one step ahead of everyone. Plus, she and her fellow sirens nearly won at the end until Sunset and her friends defeated her. However, she never really appealed to me as a character due to her obsessive personality. I dunno, she’s not that great in my opinion.

Speaking of which, the Dazzlings were definitely better villains than Sunset ever was; nonetheless, they are somewhat overrated and are really not as awesome as many fans claim them to be. In fact, I don’t really have a favorite Equestria Girls villain at all. To me, most of them are all one and the same in terms of character and wasted potential. I’ll explain further on that once I touch on the next films and episodes alongside their villains.

Okay, okay, alright, now THIS is what I’m talking about. Aria Blaze is most likely my favorite of the trio only as a character but not as a villain. As a secondary antagonist, she was rather meh, but as a character by herself, she was terrific. Plus, I have to confess I am in love with her hair style and design. To me, it makes her beautiful... and sexy. Don’t you dare judge me. Also, her nonchalant personality and sassy attitude were spot-on. I really loved that.

Aha, another fan-favorite character amongst the fans. She has got to be my second favorite of the trio due to her cute personality and sweetness. She was kinda funny and entertaining out of them all as if she were another Pinkie Pie in her own way. To be fair, she really doesn’t seem that much evil despite her cooperation with her friends in taking all the energy from the students’ strife, anger, and competition. She probably isn’t really that bad at all. Hmm, I wonder if she ever meets The Joker in the future. ;)

Overall, this movie was slightly better than the first one, but it is far from being a movie that I would willingly rewatch again. I mean, the animation, voice acting, soundtrack, and the story were good and all, but it’s still not that great. That’s just my opinion. So I’ll give this a 6/10. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for my review of Friendship Games tomorrow.

Peace.

Hey, I heard a fan say Aria could've pulled a Starscream on Adagio.

Yo, I can TOTALLY see her doing this!

5512712
Me, too. And you can use that term if you want.

5512714
Yeah, many people use that term as well. It was obvious with the way she said, “Or my lead.” with that sly smirk.

Hmm, now I’m starting to picture Starscream and Aria meeting together. 🧐

Don't touch a hornet's nest if you know it's there, amigo.

Touche, my insightful companion.

Hmm, I wonder if she ever meets The Joker in the future. ;)

...why yes, I had thought about you doing Batman x Equestria Girls but you keep sweet Sonata away from him.

Plus, I have to confess I am in love with her hair style and design. To me, it makes her beautiful...

Heh.... I remember when my This Night Aria, aka my Aria Blaze TG TF, had a unique approach when my hair became Aria Blaze's hairstyle. :3

Shall I share that with you, Mr. J? :3

Alrighty. Suit yourself though.... but it is quite interesting when you think about it. :raritywink:

But of course: I respect ya on not wanting to me explain it anyways. :ajsmug:
