You know, I don't see it.
1) Tirek. What can actually be done to prevent him from winning? Hide? He drains all the ponies and rules the Equestria, while waiting for Princesses to come out. Fight? They lose, only because he drains their magic. And now he has both Equestrian an alicorn magic.
2) Discord. DUDE. This guy requires Elements of Harmony!!! He can't be fought with just magic. Did you see how he chased Celly and Lulu with clown wigs around?
3) Storm king is a NEW PLAYER. He wasn't there a thousand years ago, and Princesses of Equestria can't be expected to scry all over Equus for threats that might or might not be there. It's a waste of time and magic. You say they were in politics? Good luck finding out when your AMBASSADORS are done, or even another take. Within few years Equestria had many problems of their own. Nightmare Moon, changeling invasion, Discord return, Discord reformation, another changeling invasion. Yes, you would go off if your ambassadors(if they have any) stopped updating you on stuff.
Just, HOW? How could Celestia handle stuff, even if she knew it was coming. Celly is powerful, not omniscient. She didn't know about changelings. She didn't know about Storm king. She didn't know about Twilight friendship breakdown(Smartypans doll).
