Hey, guys! Tonight marks the final review of the Toy Story series as I will be talking about the fourth installment: Toy Story 4! This film was definitely a wonderful epilogue of the whole series and of Woody’s story arc. Although it’s not as epic as the third one was, this was still a good movie in its own right. Now the filmmakers must finally put everything to rest because there is absolutely no way they can make a fifth one; otherwise, they will be milking the franchise at that point. Hopefully, that never happens like how Michael Bay had done to Transformers with The Last Knight.

Anyway, here are my positives and negatives for this movie as I am aware of the backlash and criticism it has gotten from the fans. Let’s start with the positives:

Positives:

First off, this has plenty of emotional and tense moments. For example, I liked how Woody was always protective of Forky despite his forgetfulness and his weird obsession with trash. Even when he, Bo Peep, and the others escaped from the clutches of Gabby, he still refused to abandon him because of the friendship he had with him. He would never abandon anybody he’s supposed to protect, and it clearly shows in these moments. Plus, this isn’t the first time he has acted like this since we’ve seen him always act as the reasonable one despite the opposition from his friends about being with Andy, responsibility, and other things. Why are people acting like this was out of character for him to be there for Forky? This is definitely in character for him to do! It’s that simple!

The voice acting was really good as always. The animation was great, and the soundtrack still never got old.

Gabby Gabby was finally the first villain to actually reform and embrace a better life for herself. She had to realize that getting Woody’s voicebox was not enough to fill the void in her heart and that not every kid will accept and love her. I was moved to tears when she was rejected so casually and when that other girl was crying for her mom and had to pick Gabby up. Seeing them together was really satisfying for me, and I was happy for Gabby that she was loved again at the end. Now she will never be alone. I wish the same for Lotso.

Some of the new characters were hilarious, namely Ducky and Bunny. They are basically the Timon and Pumbaa of the Toy Story series. They stole every scene they were in and were definitely enjoyable to watch. Duke Caboom was also a really good character. I’m surprised he wasn’t up and about killing thugs for revenge of his dead dog. Great restraint, Keanu Reeves!

Negatives:

As for the negatives, which are few, these are some of the things that somewhat annoyed me.

First of all, Forky was really annoying throughout the chunk of the movie... and I mean... really annoying. Plus, the trailers focused so much on him except in the actual film where he would have not much effect on the plot whatsoever since it focused more on Woody.

Second, why is Bo Peep’s face so different from how she looked in the first two films? Look at this:

Now this:

Her face is vastly different! Do you notice the difference?

That always bothered me ever since I first watched Toy Story 4. I’m not sure why they changed her facial design, but it is way off.

Boonie does not give a care in the world for Woody anymore. What happened? Didn’t Andy literally tell her from the last film that Woody would always be there for her and if she can take special care of him? I don’t know how long it’s been between the two films, but it seems like she forgot all that and treated Woody as an old toy. So now that Woody isn’t with the gang anymore, will she give a care in the world for him and wonder why he’s gone?

The other toys didn’t have much screen time as the other mentioned characters have gotten.

Welp, those are my thoughts on this film. Is it amazing like the third one? No, but it is still a good conclusion for Woody and his story. I give it an 8/10. So... that’s it for the Toy Story series!

Peace!

Wow, that was insightful.

I’ve enjoyed this movie very much. As with the rest of the Toy Story films, it was truly a gem of a movie thanks to terrific voice acting, storytelling, characters, and animation.

Although, there were some things that I felt saddened by. As I’ve looked back on it more, I couldn’t help but wish that Mr. Potato Head had more time to shine. Whenever he was around, hardly any moment with him was out of place and was extremely funny. I did enjoy the fact that Pixar took the time to use archival recordings by the late Don Rickles to help him have speaking parts, but in the end...it felt like it wasn’t enough.
