Alicorn is canon, yet remains stupid and wrong. · 5:17pm Dec 1st, 2012
So with this latest episode, my faith in MLP continues to die from season 3.
The etymology of alicorn is clear that it is the material that a unicorn's horn is made from, and that the first usage in reference to it being a winged unicorn in 1984 was admited by the writer that they had no idea and it wasn't substantial.
Now it's me vs the rest of the brony community (although I have an obvious yet hilarious plan for the amulet).
It wouldn't have bothered me as much if it wasn't such obvious fanservice, as winged unicorns already had their names established as winged unicorns.
Now it's just making every writer of a crappy "Twilight becomes an alicorn" fanfic and bad "self-insert as a mary sue" fic feel like they're superior for getting something wrong.
I mean, it would have been much worse if wings were grown and it's possible that it could mean that the amulet affects the magical abilities of the alicorn in the horn. The problem is that it's clearly pandering, which has been driving this season down in the first place.
I'm more disappointed than angry, but there should have at lease been a bit of pride shown when they made the series, rather than what amounts to little more than grovelling (although Zecora's performance was cool).
If anybody feels the need to try some crap about language evolution, realise that it's the same as removing the u from words like colour.
