The problem lies with both the equality dynamic and having a demigod as a main character.

You can't make a show about a demigod and her peasant friends. It just doesn't work. Twilight was my favourite because she's got a lot of flaws, and she uses her brains in combination with friendship. She hasn't got strength or flight on her side. She's a neurotic, twitchy nerd who has massive issues about living up to expectations. Give her power and she's going to destroy Equestria. She'll become a chronically depressed Mary Sue, and I'm talking more OP than Gluefoot and Tippy combined. Not only that, but if she gets out of hand, the Elements of Harmony can't stop her.

Becoming a princess is MLP's version of perfection, and everybody knows that's the last thing you'd want to happen.
