I watched it a couple of weeks ago and it was an enjoyable and breathtaking experience. It made me feel good in the chest that finally, there is Southeast Asian representation in a Disney film. I give a big thumbs up to the team who did their research and portrayed the culture as accurately as they can. Sisu is my favourite character because her quirky and fun-loving personality goes really well with her wisdom and intuition. Awkwafina did fantastic in providing her voice. ππ
Even though there were controversies regarding the final design of Sisu and the casting of mostly actors and actresses of East Asian descent in a film that embraces Southeast Asian culture, I do hope that Disney would continue creating films that represent different cultures from around the world.
I did a lettering piece for the end credits song, Lead The Way by JhenΓ© Aiko and written all over are the different language translations. The Korean character is read as "gil" while the Baybayin, a pre-Hispanic Philippine script, on the bottom right is read as "gabay", a Filipino word for guide. Gabay, performed by KZ Tandingan, is the very first Filipino-language song ever made for a Disney film.
I like it.
