Fallout New Vegas: Unexpected Friends- Good Story With a Big Letdown- Part 2 · 9:16pm Feb 19th, 2021
Throughout the entirety of the story, there are many instances similar to the Honest Hearts choices that I think make the story weaker, or less strong at the very least. Things like going theatrical with the Think Tank, rather than turning them against Dr. Klein, to even outright ignoring Ulysses during the confrontation in the silo.
The main game isn't any better. Most of the companions are merely mentioned, doing them a disservice. When Twilight goes to the Boomers, the Families are ignored. Even the Legion, as savage and interesting as it is, is treated as just another enemy. I would have preferred if, rather than turn Twilight part machine, she find out what the families were up to. I would have liked to hear snippets of each companion's story. And I would have especially preferred to have Twilight talk Lanius into retreat.
However, it's the courier herself that really drags the story down. To put it simply: she's an idiot. She just stumbles around everywhere and, more often than not needs to be rescued by Twilight. Now, when I first read this story, I only knew a little bit about New Vegas, and this story ended up in my Favorites shelf. But, just like Project Horizons, time changed my view. Now all I see are the areas where I wish the author went a different route. Would Twilight have found herself charmed into the Legion from talking with Caesar? Would she have more sympathy for the NCR after seeing Camp Forlorn Hope and NCR's various other struggles? Would she agree with the ideals of Mr. House? I don't know, because the author went the Yes Man route like so many other authors.
I think I've said all I can on this subject, so I'll leave with this: does anyone else see anything they would have done differently?
Thank you all for reading.
