Hey, guys. This is Mr. J here back to business! Tonight, I will be talking about this live-action remake of the classic animated film: Beauty and the Beast. To be honest, this is almost nothing new since it is exactly the same story with just minor differences with the characters’ personalities, the dialogue, and the atmosphere. Although there were a few things I liked in the movie, I still do not love this movie. I don’t hate it, but it isn’t worthy of a high praise either. It’s just as decent as the original film itself. So here it is:

1). I don’t like Emma Watson’s performance as Belle; it’s mainly because she acted more like a self-entitled, arrogant, and stubborn woman who just like to read books just because and didn’t want to marry Gaston... even though he was a bit stalkery yet was also... decent in some way. Many people loathed her singing voice and complained that she is a terrible singer. To me... her singing voice is actually passable. It isn’t terrible, but I do agree that she needed to increase her energetic performance. Overall, she is just boring and a bit OOC.

2). Dan Stevens was okay as Beast. However, whenever Beast tries to move his lips or tries to move his face around, they look so restricted in movement that it’s just laughably bad. Outside his mediocre design, Beast was actually decent in the movie and was a little more likable than in the original. Of course, that isn’t saying much.

3). It was really nice seeing Ewan McGregor as Lumeire. I hear Obi-Wan’s voice through him every time he speaks. Also, Kevin Kline was in this movie?! Playing Maurice?! Awesome! He was the same guy who played as Inspector Dreyfus in The Pink Panther! Gosh, I just love seeing actors from my childhood movies being reintroduced again into modern films. Anyway, I also enjoyed the performance of Stanley Tucci for Maestro Cadenza; something about his personality really stands out to me, and I don’t know why. The rest of the voice actors did a fine job as well for the other living objects.

4). Gaston himself wasn’t that bad. In fact, he seems a little more likable than his animated counterpart. I mean, the way he treats LeFou like an actual companion and not like a punching bag was really refreshing to see. Plus, I like how LeFou behaves like a good thoughtful friend to him and tries to look after his well-being... until Gaston selfishly puts him in a position where his loyalty to him starts to shaken. He wants to help him fulfill his goal of marrying Belle, but his methods are not agreeable to him. He tries to sway Gaston from going too far until the latter threatens him if he disobeys. Thus, LeFou redeems himself at the end. Honestly, it was well-thought out and executed well. It gives him more character and motivation than just run around like an idiotic comedy relief used for a punching bag like in the original. Luke Evans and Josh Gad did very well with their respective roles.

5). The acting was... okay at best, the CGI was decent, the singing was passable, and the story was... well, the same. So what does this movie get? Exactly the same score: 6/10. Nothing more, nothing less. You want to bring something new to the table, you have to do it right and execute it well. If it’s the same old story with little differences and promising characters, it gets the exact same treatment. Is it something I might watch again? Absolutely not. But hey, at least it isn’t as soulless as The Lion King remake. If this movie had plenty of emotion, then the Disney executives truly dropped the ball with The Lion King. 😕

My mom saw that movie.

So you didn’t watch this movie yet?

No, I don't care for the remakes.

I saw this movie one time with my mother and one of my grandmothers. Each of us found it to be a 50/50 venture, not as good as the animated film but alright. For instance, I enjoyed the portrayals of Dan Stevens, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Kline, and Josh Gad, but felt that the performances of Emma Watson and Luke Evans were...surprisingly wooden. And, I thought the new musical numbers were fun, but the recreations of the old ones...not so much.

Understandable

I like LeFou’s character arch a lot more than the other characters.

I'd hate to see a Live Action Cruelly De'Vil

Even after seeing the picture I sent, you’re still sure.

Very impressive confidence... in the face of fear.

She's borderline insane. And that says a lot coming from me since my family has the lowest form of common sense.

Point is that maniac belongs in a Asylum.
