Animation isn't a genre. It's an art medium that one can tell any story with. It annoys the hell out of me that execs/boomers think that animation is automatically catered towards kids. And for them to also think that animation should have typical themes like sex, drugs, and violence for it to cater towards adults is ridiculous AF.
There are a few animated series (and films) that talk about issues that happen in real life and whether execs like it or not, it's necessary to incorporate dark yet compelling themes to make the viewers think deeply, be invested with overarching stories, and resonate with the characters and their circumstances.
I agree, but really what would you expect out of people?
sorry if that sounded rude

It's fine. I just needed to let out my frustration.
This has been an issue ever since Fritz the Cat was released. A lot of this stems from people not doing their research beforehand with regards to film, but it afflicts animation especially. People don't automatically assume live action films are kid friendly. The same should be true of animation.
