Is Santa Real? · 8:13pm Dec 27th, 2020
Well, no.
But I can't actually remember a time when I believed he was.
I was thinking about this because my brother told me a story about H.P. Lovecraft, and how he cited his parents telling him Santa Claus isn't real as a very formative experience in his life, and made him decide God wasn't real.
Not sure if that story's true, but it's hilarious so I don't really care.
I know that my parents used to do all the goofy Santa stuff. We'd write letters and leave out cookies and all that. But I don't ever remember having that big dumb moment where they tell me Santa's not real.
Anyone else? I'm not sure if I'm misremembering or if I was just a weird kid.
I figured it out when I was 6, when Mommy and Daddy wanted me to help carry the presents out to the living room. After a while, I concluded that the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy were fake as well.

I always felt like the Tooth Fairy was the most excessive. I get if you want an excuse to give gifts to the kids on holidays, but giving out money when their teeth fall out is just... Gross? I don't know.
What's weird is how every parent in the western world just collectively decides, "Hm yes, creepy tooth gremlin buys your bones. The kids will love that."
