So THIS is King Sombra's origin story, huh? · 11:32pm Dec 20th, 2020

Holy shit, I'm crying. :fluttercry:

That was a legitimately tragic backstory. Seeing Sombra want nothing more than to be happy and spend his life with Radiant Hope, only to continuously suffer because of the Crystal Faire literally killing him, something completely out of his control, was just... mmph.

Y'know, I'm starting to see why his personality revamp in Season 9 irked some fans. But I like to think of the backstory itself as still canon.

And no, I have no plans on checking out the Siege of the Crystal Empire comic arc. I've heard it not only gives him a snapshot redemption, but it's also rushed and poorly-written in general. Fortunately this comic can be viewed as its own separate story.

Since we don’t have what his backstory is like in show. I view this comic as canon for Sombra backstory

I agree, I do think that they had a very solid backstory for Sombra in this comic.

I'm just as happy with the Season Nine depiction of the character, admittedly just because sometimes I like a fun, flamboyantly evil villain. But I don't mind at all more sympathetic, even tragic depictions of the King either. All comes down to execution of concept for me. (My basic attitude with the comics is "pick and choose what works, go with what you like.")

Yeah, since Season 9 neither referenced or contradicted his origin story, it isn't exactly "not canon anymore". He can be a Large Ham and have a tragic backstory.
