The worst parent to exist in a movie · 7:36am Nov 23rd, 2020
Are you familiar with Dead Poets Society? There's a character that I hate so fucking much. His name is Thomas Perry, the narcissistic, demanding, and tyrannical asshole of a dad who forced his son, Neil Perry, to become a doctor, but Neil wanted to pursue an acting career.
Despite the standing ovation that Neil received, Thomas still showed disapproval, unwillingness to change, and lack of understanding, resulting Neil to take his own life. Instead of owning up to his mistakes, Thomas accused John Keating for "corrupting his mind", causing him to lose his job as a teacher.
Sad to say, parents like him exist in real life and it infuriates me that they force their perspective on their children, to the point of hurting them to maintain perfection and avoid coming to terms of being wrong.
Here's what I have to say to so-called parents. It's not about you, it's about them. Stop shoving your fucking ego on their face and change with the times, or the times will change you. If you can't be supportive of their endeavours and all you care about is your reputation, then maybe you shouldn't be parents in the first place.
Last but not least, fuck you, Thomas Perry! 🖕
Actually watched that movie. I don't think he's the worst, (That still goes to Buck Cluck for me.) Though he is bad. He did care about his son, at least in his own way, he needed to be a better parent but in his own way he did care. Honestly I was hoping his basic character was what White Diamond would have been like, and to a degree was, the idea you know best and need to make the decisions for one who was like a child to you, and your push to make them go a certain way only drives them farther and farther until it pushes them over the edge, and only when they are gone from your life and can't be restored does the weight of what you were doing click and you change yourself
