Whatever I want? The soufle. Again. · 4:22pm Nov 26th, 2012
I get to write about whatever I want. So now, it's time to write about Obama and gun control. For those of you who do not know, an assault rifle is any rifle which uses an assault class cartridge, and that has either a selective fire mechanism or has an automatic function. This means that an AK-47 that can only fire semiauto is not an assault rifle. Same with an M16 that can't fire burst. So, now we know what an assault weapon is. As we all know, in recent months, Obama's administration has beefed up it's enforcement on assault rifle bans. Now, what exactly does that mean? Absolutely nothing whatsoever. You see, assault rifles are already banned. Basically, he made them even more illegal. So great. Assault weapons are just as easy to acquire as before, but he also gets to employ more people into the government to "regulate" these illegal weapons, and gets to make a show of it.
I went down to West Virginia over the break. My older brother, his girlfriend and I went into a local pawn shop, and he tried to purchase a handgun for personal defense. However, he was not able to, as he did not live in West Virginia. However, he noted that he would not buy a handgun anyway, as the dealers prices were far too high for just a simple nine mil. The dealer got slightly indignant on us. He told us that he was very sorry for charging so much, but legislation approved in previous years had made it so expensive to be a gun salesman that the permits to do so were becoming more and more expensive, which warranted higher and higher prices. My older brother instantly apologized and, seeing as how he is military, did not press the issue further, lest he say something bad about the president, which is taboo in the military. I will not go into military doctrine, but just know that it is a sound principle.
However, the man and I raged about it for a good few minutes. I am totally pissed. We should be praising gun salesman for providing us the means to defend ourselves and our families, not to mention our rights. Our principles are so backward, I don't know how we drive everyday without looking in a mirror.
I agree that we should be able to protect ourselves however we wish; within reason, of course. If it's too expensive to buy a gun nowadays, how are we to properly protect ourselves in the first place? I mean, not all of us are part of the military, or take self-defense classes.
