Movie Fact #15 · 7:00pm Sep 16th, 2020
During the production of Fantasia 2000, former Chairman and CEO of Disney, Michael Eisner, suggested one of the animated segments be made with the well-known piece, Pomp and Circumstance, after attending his son's graduation. As for what would be represented visually, Eisner thought about presenting a HUGE wedding featuring all the Disney princesses with their lovers, each carrying their future children as they say their "I do's".
For the animators, this was absolutely horrifying, because not only would it look like the characters were part of some freaky religious cult ritual, but also, if Disney presented all the princesses pregnant next to their true loves, then it would leave the audience to think about the process of how they were......uh, how can I put this...
GETTING KNOCKED UP!
And keep in mind, all of them aren't even over the age of 18!!! 😐
Ultimately, Eisner scrapped the idea, but the music was still kept in the film and becoming the segment we all know now.
Eisner... *growling draconequus noises*
Sorry, personal bias; keeping it inside, because friendship is magic. You don't need my venom. }:)
Eisner's tenure at Disney was one of the strangest and most interesting in Disney's history, for both good and bad. Defunctland on YouTube has some of the best documentaries on this era (ranging from 15 min. all the way to 45 min.) and I can't help but binge-watch them every once in a while, and marvel at how these moments happened.
