"A Love for Music" Update [17May2020] · 11:35am May 17th, 2020
Alright! Another day, another update that I've been pondering over for the last couple weeks as I sit here in silence at five in the morning.
After looking into some of my older stories a bit more, I've been making notes as to what I can improve and what I can change entirely. While there are other stories in my bin of ideas, including stories I've either already published or have yet to publish, the focus of today's little update is the very story that kinda propelled my profile into the state it's in now; whether it was for better or worse is up for debate.
I'll avoid going into a long-winded tangent and just get into the update before I start rambling about the potential dangers of drinking myself to death.
So, I've taken a look at A Love for Music for the first time in three years, and... Oh dear God, I have so much to say in such little time.
First off, I'll admit that it's not terrible; it's okay at best. But was it deserving of the attention that it got at that stage? Absolutely not. While I was reading Part 1 the first and second time around, there were moments where I legitimately had to pinch the bridge of my nose, sigh to myself and resist the urge of turning my laptop into a $900 paperweight. That's not to say that there weren't moments that I didn't enjoy writing, but they obviously could've been done much better than what I had done originally. I did also look back on the wise words of Pony Vision and have realized that their advice was much more useful than I could've imagined, like how the story was just a bit too fast-paced and how the romance was a bit off and not explored to its fullest. Not to mention that the dialogue felt a bit... What's the best word? Clunky; that's how I'd best describe the dialogue.
So, with all of this in-mind, I just said "fuck it" and decided that I'm going to, at some point, completely rewrite the story and give it some more substance. That also means that it might end up being longer than just two parts, but we'll see how that goes when we get there. I'll be taking previous criticism and advice and using it to make the story as a whole better.
However.
This one is gonna be a slow burn, my friends. I know for a fact that I won't be able to churn this out in less than a week when I first get this republished, and the later chapters might take even longer. But as long as I stick with it this time, and not kill myself over trying to crunch a few thousand words out in less than two weeks, I think it'll come out in a timely manner not seen last time.
Also, in regards to my forced inclusion of my OC in the first release of A Love for Music, I do regret how I wrote it and will be changing that. However, I think I'm gonna include him in this next draft, but in a much more natural way; where he doesn't interfere with the flow and focus of the story like he did the last time. The character has, thankfully, had a lot more opportunity for fine tuning and development, so we'll see how well he fares this time around. Also, that Embodiment of Compassion thing was just... Oh my Lord, moving on.
Alongside him, I'll be including other minor characters for both sides of our main protagonists based on how they relate to one another. For example, Vinyl Scratch and Neon Lights, or Octavia and Lyra. Basically, there's a little bit of a supporting cast for both characters. Hopefully this doesn't backfire on me.
What else... What else... Oh! While I'm getting all this settled and figured out, I'll still be working on another little project I've got on the backburner at the moment. I'm pretty sure if any of you saw my previous blog post regarding my little internal clock fiasco (which is still going on, by the way), I'm working on a little story called "The Battle of Manehatten". It was originally intended to just be a little writing prompt to get my fingers movin' again, but it's kinda steadily progressed into my "Comeback Kid" project.
Alright, that's all I've got for today... Hopefully. I'll keep you guys updated on any developments as they come. See ya guys in the next one!

Update within an update:
So guess what my dumbass just did? I revoked the submission on the story and now it's no longer available for public viewing. Huzah… Yay.
Well, I'll try and fix it up and republish it soon.
