The Wanderer's Wife, a story that I've spent a helluva lot of time on, and one that I sometimes bug a certain person (who shall remain nameless, but he's awesome, and probably the person who got me into writing fanfiction in the first place, to give you a clue) to read snippets of whilst I'm working on it, currently has 467 views at maximum for a chapter. It has been on this site for at least 5 months.
Mother's Don't Need Manuals, an ABDL fetish story that I wrote to try my hoof at something a little bit different from my norm, has 666 views. It has been on this site for less than 3 weeks. Lil' Baby Blank Flank, after being on this site for about 3 days, has gotten half as many.
Well fuck.
I should honestly feel happy that all stories have met with success, but I don't. I feel angry. Enraged even. Whilst I do like to write the stories that let me explore my bizarre (and quite frankly perverse) side, I really don't want to be an author that's recognized for just those types of stories. Rest assured I won't be stopping anytime soon, but please go and look at my EQD fanfic if you haven't already.
There. Rant over. Have a nice day.
I have it on my read later list... as number 55 HELP! ALso I have 310 chapter updates... It will take a bit to read that...
A lot of people on this site are only here to read the perverse fanfiction. I've tried avoiding it but at some point it just flows in with everything else
If I wasn't so busy, I swear I'd go read it, and i plan to eventually. But I think it's more to do with the fact that you don't have the main characters from the show than anything else. Try writing a babyfur story without any recognized characters and I think you'll see a difference.
569659 It's not the fact that the characters are recognized (though there IS a link when it comes to which recognized characters are involved), it's the fact that the term 'diaper' is actually a popular search term used on FIMFiction. Seriously, my Fluttershy fic is still increasing in views rapidly, sometimes up to 30-40 a day. My Apple Bloom one also gets regular views too. It's just that content draws more people in than characters, and since babyfur fiction is a rare thing on FIMFiction it's often either completely trashed or momumentalized here. Look at darkentrophy's stories; last time I looked, one of them was at 1,200 views!
My point is that people are going off to look at my more taboo stuff rather than going for my fiction that I take a lot of pride in.

Wow, I see what you mean now... well, crap. I got nothing. I understand, though; I still can't get my story on EQD. I wonder if that will hapen once I post my story and add it to the group.
569735 Head to the Training Grounds on ponychan. If you get a good reviewer there, you'll get onto EQD no problem (unless your story has an inherent flaw in it, but since I've seen some of your work I highly doubt that's the case). You could also try the proofreader's group here, but a lot of the members are either pretentious, condescending or downright rude. I'd recommend asking AlicornPriest if he's available.

I can never get anyone's help on ponychan, it's like everyone ignores me or something. But thanks for the recomendation, I'll ask him/her.
569783 Check his blog posts, usually it'll tell you if he's taking or not. Have you submitted your Pinkie story yet btw?

I've just submitted it to the site, and need to wait for it to pass inspection. Once that's done, I will put it in the group folder.
I'm not sure I completely understand what bothers you about this state of things.
What's wrong with having a more 'bizarre' story that's more popular than a standard adventure fic? I can't speak for anypony else, but I read through "Mother's Don't Need Manuals" (that first apostrophe is unnecessary, by the way) because it's largely unique. There really aren't that many stories of its kind here yet, much less that are actually good, as opposed to someone who can't write publishing the rough draft they wrote while getting off with their other hand.
Conversely, while I'm sure it's probably a great story, I've read enough (and still subscribe to the updates of enough) adventure-type stories that I just don't have the time or interest to read The Wanderer's Wife, or pretty much any other adventure story, for that matter, it's certainly not personal. Perhaps that's why the discrepancy is showing up -- the foal stories are rare enough that anyone who was looking for them will definitely read yours, but everyone is oversaturated with adventure by now.
That being said, frankly as it is, I do hope that you don't stop writing either kind of story, on my account or anyone else's. You're good at what you do -- don't let it bother you which of your stories is more successful when they're all good stories. As for "being known" as a writer of X types of stories instead of Y types of stories, I highly doubt that will be a factor in the vast majority of your readers' decisions to read; I certainly don't go through an author's entire backlog before choosing to watch them after reading one excellent story I found on the front page.
583667 Wow. This is what I needed to put my mind at ease. Though the 'over-saturation of adventure' isn't as big of a problem as it was like last year or so, it's still a prominent genre. But there's a key difference in my story: there are only original characters. I know that sounds like a bad thing, but I do take care in the traits and development of the characters, and they don't have Sue-like powers. I'm just saying that I try at least three times as hard to make that story good, but it's overshadowed by my diaper fics...
