The finale of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has occasioned many a posting of melancholy music. I've seen a lot of "The Parting Glass" and "Auld Lang Syne" and its counterpart from the show "Days Gone By." But the following gem of a song needs more exposure:
I've also ponified the lyrics:
I miss my friends tonight, their faces shine for me.
The clamor of their singing's like some mad calliope.
Still ringing through the Golden Oak until the morning light,
Comedians and angels, I miss my friends tonight.With cocoa or with cider, straight or on the rocks;
The Pillars at the barricade, the Princesses in hock.
A song for every season, a smile in every fight,
Comedians and angels, I miss my friends tonight.When Fluttershy sat quiet, and Pinkie laughed and smiled,
The Apples hauled a shantey out and Rarity she styled.
When Rainbow Dash best or worst, and Twilight wrong or right,
Comedians and angels, I miss my friends tonight.I wonder where they are now, they could be anywhere;
In Tartarus or Cloudsale, or back in Baltimare.
They left us where they left us, so we put out the light,
Comedians and angels, I miss my friends tonight.They drained a parting glass then, and sailed off to sea,
And what a crew of rogues they made in gleeful anarchy.
They sang to the horizon a song no pen could write,
Comedians and angels, I miss my friends tonight.
They sang to the horizon a song no pen could write,
Comedians and angels, I miss my friends tonight.
