Bad Book Review 13 (The Guardian, Chapter 15) · 9:36pm Jul 27th, 2019
Some see 13 as unlucky, others, the opposite. I'm not feeling well, so I might try to summarize this more than usual.
In our last review, Cameron had sex with Christina Urbain, then the two of them went to the house of the babysitter, where Gabriel cut the power, broke in, and killed the sitter, Karen, while indicating that he was going after Joseph as well.
Chapter fifteen opens with Karen's body be collected into a morgue van. Cameron gets a call that there was another report of attempted suicide, and that Kirkland is dealing with it, which he informs Christina. She asks about the intruder, and Cameron claims he is going to strike at a prayer meeting at the church. As they go back to the car, Cameron tries to reach Father Stephen.
The scene changes to Kirkland, approaching a man named Bruce, who is sitting on his porch, handcuffed. Kirkland comments on how Bruce was lucky and how Kirkland is sick of seeing suicides, getting sarcasm in return. Kirkland tries to find out why Bruce attempted suicide. Bruce says Kirkland doesn't actually care, that he will try again, and even mentions that his guardian angel told him he could do it.
Detective Kirkland loses it. He pulls out his gun, aims it at Bruce, calls him names, then threatens to shoot him. Bruce calls him crazy, and Kirkland talks about how he is sick of everything happening, threatening to do it. Bruce freaks out. Then when Kirkland asks if Bruce really wants to die, Bruce says no.
After a moment of hesitation, Kirkland puts his gun away, and says he doesn't want to be called back. The police -- who had their own weapons drawn and watching -- put them away, and one calls out, wanting to know what happened.
The chapter ends with Kirkland going back to his car, talking about how good it felt.
Until next time.
Ink Hoof.
And if that wasn't ominous as fuck, I wouldn't know what is. Seems almost like he is being drawn into something big!
