I Bet Scales is Spike's Mother... and Here's My Defense! · 4:57pm Dec 17th, 2018

If you know me, I love piecing together juicy predictions on many things. And personally, I have a raging boner for predicting which characters are the relatives of what other characters, or what a character (typically a villainous one)'s secret identity is. Some of my personal favorites are All For One's true name (or, at least, an alter ego he assumed at the time) being one Hisashi Midoriya from My Hero Academia, Drunkle Qrow Branwen being Ruby Rose's biological father over in RWBY (Welp, I was wrong, he's gay), and Rose Quartz, of Steven Universe fame, being secretly the supposedly tyrannical Pink Diamond all along (WHO WAS RIGHT ABOUT THAT LAST ONE, BABY? PREDICTED SINCE DAY-FREAKING-ONE! THEY CALLED ME MAD, BUT I SHOWED THEM ALL!).

Now, it seems to me that we have our latest secret to unravel, here in our own happy little fandom, surrounding one Spike the Dragon. We had some hints (though not much) of Spike's progenitors from the episode Father Knows Beast, but all that turned out to be a LIE! THE FILTHY EARTH BOY LIESSSSS! when that fat dragon who stated he was Spike's dear old dad secretly turned out to be a FRAUD, SPIDER-MAN! NYAH!

Now I ask you to turn you attention to the wondrous episode, The Hearth's Warming Club. It was a classic, cozy whodunnit scene where all the students shared Christmas Hearth's Warming stories with each other as they waited to be interrogated. When the turn for Smolder came about, she regaled to us the story of the treacherous usurper... Scales.

Scales and Spike; need I really point out the similarities among these two? They have a similar look, a similar color, they're both dragons, they've never met... They share a similar names even, concerning protruding bony plates and pointy extremities. Heck, "Scales" bounces off "Spike" like beans off toast.

Yes, this story of Scales must have occurred a long time ago, so how could a dragon like that still be alive? To that, I say dragons have shown themselves to live for UNCOUNTABLE CENTURIES. For proof, I merely ask you to recall when we first saw Flash Magnus, a pony who was born well over a millennium prior, tangle with a dragon that bore an UNCANNY resemblance to Ember's father Torch in that tale RD told. Just give it some air, and I'll bet ten big ones that if the writers are given a chance to delve deeper into Spiky-wikey's history and (true) relatives, we could see that there's something of a blood relation betwixt the kindly Spike and the power-lusting Scales.

Your opinions? How would a relationship like that pan out, between a long-lost, pony-raised son of noble mind and a deposed despot who is most likely embittered by being bounced out of ruling dragonkind, including, mayhaps, having to give up their own egg for whatever reason was hers, be it out of tender care or for nothing more than a pretty penny?

You know what? I can believe it.

I like it. Head canon excepted. :moustache:
