Umm… Hi?
Recently I have read many amazing fanfiction here so now I am thinking about writing something myself. I have few ideas but there is a little problem… When it comes to the past tenses I get terribly lost. So… Could I use present tenses? You know, present simple, present continues… There isn’t anything wrong about that, is it? I mean, there is no such written rule as: “Thou shall never, never, NEVER use present tense narrative or gigantic troll shall appear and consume thou.”
There is no such rule, right?

In fact, a lot of novels nowadays are written in present tense, to the point where it's something of a trend.

I noticed but mostly those novels also have First-person narrative. Dunno why. Maybe it's, just as you said, a trend.

You can use whatever tense fits the narrative.
