    the mystic cypher reborn

so, get ready folks. the mystic cypher is getting a comeback, with some changes. i just got campfire and will be making progress over the next couple of weeks. the basic premise will be the same, however there will be drastic rewrites in the story for when Nick arrives in equestria. but with my new tools and the last few years of thought on what to do with writing i think its time.

so I've been recently watching that new anime "that time I got reincarnated as a slime" would anyone be interested in a displaced fic with an MC displaced as the slime dude?

so, been a while. so or those of you who don't know I've been working on a new story as of late, all my past ones have had one problem or another that kind of killed it for me, winds of change? character was basically a Gary stew, So you thought it was that easy? tried to please everyone and wrote myself into a corner I couldn't get out of without rewriting basically the entire story.

and my only good one, The Mystic Cipher, I honestly do plan to finish it someday, but I honestly was just going chapter by chapter without a clear idea of where to take it.

I've learned from my past mistakes, so I've been working on a new story, one where I've balanced out the character's power, gave him both strength and weaknesses, gave him a decent background, and finally I've been working on the story in advance before publishing, I plan to have at least 10 chapter's ahead of any posted, so I likely won't post any this year, but finally, I'll be back by January hopefully.

if anyone has any thought's questions or concerns just let me know in the comment section.

That's great. Are there any details you feel like sharing concerning your new story? I remember reading Mystic Cipher, and I really liked the philosopher stone concept. It somehow managed to give the OC a relatively overpowered ability with unlimited potential without making ruining the story. If you have anything like that planned for your new story, that'd be amazing.

while I did like the philosopher stone in that fic, it didn't have any defined limit's as to what it could do, for this new story I'm using D&D mechanics to form this new character. this way I have very defined limit's as to what the character can and cannot do for the most part.

What do you mean? Could you give an example?

4960203
examples of what exactly?

4960207
How do you plan to use D&D mechanics? Are you talking about making your fic like a video game by having the character's abilities be controled by something like stat points. I personally know next to nothing about D&D aside from the phrase "rolling for initiative," and as such, I don't really know how it would be used or how it would be different from the first fic.

it's rather complicated. in D&D when you create a character, your following a template like a video gam when it comes to race, gender, class, and so on, but you choose what the character does on a very deep level, it's not like in a video game where your limited to only what was programmed in, you can be very creative with your spells, if you have any, and you choose what your character says rather then predetermined dialogue.

I do have a character sheet for this new MC, but unfortunately that's a secret until I release the story.

the main character is a Eldritch knight, for an example of what that looks like without sitting through an hour long video watch this.

as I based his design somewhat on it.

and yes stats like that will be used, but they will be hidden ones not actually mentioned in the story aside from descriptions of the character.

I had the same problem you had with Cypher. Chapter by chapter, I only decided just now where I want to take my story from now on. The answer was to go down themes that I genuinely felt I would enjoy going down. I also needed to realize that Tropes are merely incidental, and as long as I kept a personal spin on my work, it turns out original and genuine.
Take time to figure out what you would enjoy doing with your story, make that or those 'things' you enjoy into a theme or themes, then go nuts.

i have been, these past few stories have been real learning experiences for me, i was hoping to have a few chapters done for my new one by the end of this month, but i had a mishap in my work schedule for the past month and ended up working some 16 hour days in my job switching... so it's unfortunately going to be delayed a bit..
