I think far, far too hard about things. These things include magical ponies.

    Voting

I could say I don't care how you vote, but I'd be lying. I care very much. But whatever. Do it anyway.

Get yourselves to the polls. Early if you can.

    Good Pony Study Music

Studying like mad for the GREs, and then I just stumble on some criminally underviewed youtube remixes. I figure someone else has to appreciate them.

They did the whole musical, but these are the ones that have been stuck in my head.

    Patriotism This Year

Plenty of people probably aren't feeling very patriotic today. I know I'm not. Between the atrocities at the border, the attacks on women's and lgbt rights, and the threats to the press and rule of law? It's easy to feel the country is in a downward spiral, if it was ever that great at all.

Why is Raven like a Writing Desk?

    They both flap.

    Poe wrote on both.

    They're both covered in black.

Beaks and pens both leave a mark.

Both make words that can startle or spook you.

A fine example of both will catch your eye. So to speak.

Writing desks are old, and so are dinosaurs. A Raven is a dinosaur.

Tara Strong plays both Twilight and Raven. And Twilight is an avid writer with a quill.

    Non-Pony Fanfic!

So, in case anyone is wondering where I've been, I now have an AO3 account for nonpony fics. Star Trek: Discovery is awesome, and there may eventually be some Overwatch in there too.

Fear not though, the Adventures of Daring Do will continue! Just as soon as I get enough of the plot bunnies off my back.

Ponified Language and/or Characterization · 11:18pm Aug 15th, 2018

Just some thoughts on the subject.

So obviously the characters are speaking Equish, not English. It's a common global language. And one odd feature of Equestrian Equish is that it has pronoun suffixes to refer to the species you are talking about. This gives you opportunities to play with things.

For example: Tempest, who hasn't lived in Equestria for most of her life, doesn't use them. And when I write her she still doesn't use them after she rejoins society, because she's from diverse places like Kludgetown and finds it a bit racist.

Changelings, of course, don't think in Equestrian. But they do speak it when infiltrating. It's annoying to keep track of...

Equestrian used to have suffixes for the different races of ponies as well, but after Unification using them is going to get a very strong negative reaction.

"Buck" is a swear word, but it's not a synonym for anything in English. It's literal. So "Buck it to Tartarus" and "Buck me in the face" and "Buck me" are all rude, but not unprintable for a kid's show if you wrote them in English. Slightly nonsensical, but that's why no-one translates swear words: the intent matters more than the content, unless you're getting creative.

Ponies just love puns. It's a cultural thing. So utter groaners like Manehattan and Baltimare are definitely puns in Equish, are completely normal, and any humans should keep their snickers to themselves thank you.
