Thoughts on Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) · 8:06pm Jul 17th, 2018
Let's just get out of the way the fact that I am a bit of a Marvel fan, or at least, I like their superhero movies more than any other studio. But at the same time, I didn't care about this movie at first; I didn't really have any inclination to see it, but I did anyway. I liked the first Ant-Man but I'd heard this one wasn't quite as good, which I expected. Plus, Infinity War already came out this year, and I really liked that, so this wasn't really a big thing.
And this movie? In short, I liked it. I think an especially good part of it was the humor. It was really good, basically, and I laughed a lot. Paul Rudd is a good actor for this and I like his performance, especially when it comes to the humor. I still think Thor: Ragnarok is the funniest Marvel movie so far, but this is pretty good too. Michael Peña and Michael Douglas were also pretty good, about as good as they'd been in the first Ant-Man.
I wasn't very fond of the villain, Ghost; their power/condition made no sense, especially for a Marvel movie, and I wasn't very interested. It was kind of weak, especially compared to the more interesting villians Marvel's had of late, and it dragged the movie down a bit, but I didn't really think it was that great.
Everything else seemed pretty average and factory standard. Aside from some of the things done with growing and shrinking things, not much else got my attention. The movie is fun, for sure, but it's not that great, and one could easily miss it and not have lost a lot (possibly aside from the post-credits scene). It's a Marvel movie. It's cool but not that cool, so I'm giving this a six out of ten.
