    Bucket List Results

Remember the spring break bucket list I posted about a month ago? Well, it's time to look at the results. And I'd say I did quite well. Especially if you consider how much I added since the initial post. Who knows, I might be able to cross off a few more the next couple days, as my initial plan to be already playing Persona 5 Royal at this point took quite a hit.

    Goddammit Nintendo

Just casually releasing a new Direct.
And only half-revealing the next Smash fighter. Though I'm glad for the franchise.

Marwile watches SAO Part 9 "Fairy Dance. Or: Why you don't ship siblings" · 10:09pm May 18th, 2018

Let's make this quick, because my allergies are trying to kill me.

Some of you recommended me to stop, but I won't give up, thanks to a weird combination of pride, perseverance, curiosity and masochism.

So, let's start into SAO's second arc "Fairy Dance". And we start with Kirito apparently having PTSD from his time in SAO. I won't elaborate further, because I don't think it'll be important.

We jump to Kirito's sister Suguha and– holy shit! She has the german voice of Twilight! Now it's personal. Where was I? Oh yeah, we meet Suguha and immediately establish... that she has a crush on her brother. I just wanna mention in advance that I don't like incest subplots. Or incest mainplots. Incest plots period. I also want to mention that it looks like even the new OP is shipping them.

They have a kendo sparring match and itlooks like his experince in the game made him a better sword fighter in real life. This definitely has no importance to the plot, but I just wanted to talk about it, because it's a real thing which I find really cool. There are children that learned driving a car through Mario Kart.

Enough distraction! Kirito goes to the hospital. We find out that after the end of SAO 300 players, including Asuna, are still in a coma. In her room are also Asuna's father and her supposed childhood friend. Once the father is gone he shows his creepy side and tells Kirito that the company of Asuna's father, where he has a high position, bought the technology behind SAO and that he plans to marry Asuna very soon. How legal is marrying a comatose girl? Is Asuna even 18?

The rest of the episode is spent on even more setup for Suguha's crush on her brother. An uncomfortably long amount of time. Including a flashback, where it's revealed they are actually only cousins. How to spot a bad anime 101: The anime spends several minutes hammering in that the siblings are not directly related by blood, like cousins, half siblings or adoption. Also Kirito hacked into the town archives when he was 10. Seems legit.

The episode ends with Kirito getting an email from Egil showing Asuna in a bird cage. I think this marks the end for her having actual character.

And even the ED is shipping these two! What the hell?!

Hey, I watched 5 episodes SAO alternative yesterday, and I like it.
It's everything I was hoping for SAO to be before I started watching it :twilightblush:
Well except for the player-dying-for-real plot, but that is gone and spoiled now.

Glad that you also enjoyed it.
And maybe we might somehow get the player-dying-for-real-plot. We don't know if Pito's threat was real or not. And we don't know how far she can (and wants to) take things.

I'm so curious about that.
Personally, I think Pito and M are siblings (probably bro and sis) and she bullies him on a regular basis.
So while I think he is genuinely terrified, and she rings a lot of alarm bells with her attitude, I find hard to believe she would literally kill him.

My theory is that M is actually very shy and since he was young he closed his social life into video games and war strategies. Literally, a modern outcast. Also, I think Pito (his older sister) always drove him to go out and make friends but the way she does so in such an upfront way that he sees it as her imposing on him.
The way he plays, he has to be at least over twenty years old (He knows how to wield a sniper rifle without aim assist), but he's probably a manchild.

About Pito, she probably is around 25 or younger (one of her classmates just married) and she is so upfront and direct with others not because she's actually mean and aggressive, but because she's used to doing this way for her experience with her brother. Also, seeing him still closed in his world probably makes even more frustrated and stubborn, fueling her attitude.

In short, P and M probably have that kind of siblings relationship that Kirito and Sugaha should have had if their author was any good. Instead, they got the incest-but-not-really vibe between them. You know, anime.

Or Pito could be an actual psycho who has fun to kill real life friends because they're shit at video games.
That doesn't sound the style of this series, though.

Very interesting theory. It makes me even more curious about the truth now. Though I have to admit that I managed to spoil myself a little bit (turns out this one is also based on a light novel):scootangel:

Now I'm torn.
Do I search the light novel, or do I wait for new episodes to be released?:facehoof:
Dilemma, dilemma...

I'd wait for the episodes. Voice acting, animation and music make quite a difference. I'm also counting myself lucky that my spoiler was only minor. Not to mention we are already halfway through the season.
