A public apology to MythrilMoth · 2:57pm May 1st, 2018
Those of you who know me know two things about me. First, I despise political correctness in all forms, considering it anathema to traditional liberal values of freedom of speech and expression. Second, I am very vocal about those views and don't hesitate to assert them or incorporate them into my writing. A corollary to this is that I'm a very staunch believer in free speech, which in my view has taken a serious beating in recent years.
Nevertheless, there is time to speak up and express those views and a time not to, and yesterday, I'm afraid I flew off the handle at one of his blog posts (which I will not link because I do not want to stir up the pot again), misinterpreting what he was saying and basically responding to a completely different argument than the one he was making. I ended up hijacking the thread and making a general ass of myself for no good reason than that I wanted to vent, and the result is that I now come away with egg on my face. I regret what I did and were I to do it over again, I would have responded to his actual argument in far less snippy terms or stayed out of it completely.
In essence, I realize now after a night's reflection, my very response proved the actual point of his post--that freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequence.
So, to MythrilMoth, I apologize publicly and unreservedly for my actions. Even aside from the tone of my initial reply, it was uncalled for and the improper venue to be doing it. You're a good author whose works I've enjoyed over the years, and I promise to be better going forward.
Everyone makes mistakes. Lord knows I've had bigger public meltdowns for worse reasons.
