MLP Season 8 "School Daze" Thoughts · 9:19pm Mar 24th, 2018

Man, I completely forgot that S8 of MLP started today. Plus the fact that Season 8(!) of Pony just sounds unreal in itself. I don't think I have to summarize the plot, because everyone reading this probably saw it and many others already do this. So, going straight to the point, I liked it. Season 8 definitely has great potential. Behind the break more in-depth and random thoughts on the two-parter.

The table of friendship has grown over the course of the movie. Luckily no new throne for Starlight. (Sadly no new throne for Sunset)

I really like the school idea. I'm a huge fan of school sitcoms. (One of many reason I'm sad we never got a proper EQG series)

The highlight of the episodes are certainly the new characters, a new and diverse group, because it consists of girls AND boys! Oh and they are also different species.
The pony Sandbar... Not much to say about him so far (he sounds like a surfer dude)
The griffon Gallus. (Our fourth named griffon) I love his snark ("Hey, is this Professor Egghead?"). But I have serious problems remembering his name. What a name is Gallus? Couldn't they have chosen something more... normal. Like Gregor, or Gavin, or Guinevieve?
Hippogriff Silverstream. (Fourth named hippogriff counting the general) She 's basically Skystar. But that doesn't mean I don't like her.
Changeling Ocellus. (Forth named changeling) Basically Twilight's knowledge and Fluttershy's shyness in the body of a changeling.
Dragon Smolder. (Forth named dragon) Can someone please help me? I have no idea whether Smolder is a boy or a girl. Personality of a boy, voiced by a girl, androgynous body.
And Yak Yona. (Second named yak) An actually likeable yak.
I really hope we get some more episodes focused on them this season. Maybe they are the fabled Gen 4.5.

Also, I still enjoy every second Ember is on screen. ("Please stop singing, then you can have Smolder")

We also have the vil... antagonist Chancellor Neighsay. I already see people getting angry over him. Yes, he's a cliche racist in a high position (like Donald Trump). But he had some valid points, followed the rules of the country and was technically acting in its best interest (unlike Donald Trump). It may sound dumb, but don't forget Equestria actually weaponized Friendship. And one point many seem to overlook is that Twilight straight up lied to him. I'm not trying to defend him, I just want clear this up. He is still an asshole. He'll probably return.

So yeah, I have high hopes for Season 8.
