    So Let Me Explain Everything...

Once again, I'm not posting for attention. Just to explain everything and help you understand why I'm not a frequent poster.

It's difficult for me to stay motivated. I have a lot of self-doubt in my own skills and talents, so I haven't been as confident in my writing as I was when I was little.

My Review Of The MLP Movie (Spoilers Ahead!) · 12:56am Jan 15th, 2018

Boy, is it late to post this! The movie came out a whole three months ago and I am so late to posting my thoughts on it. Sorry for not posting in forever, but life has been very busy. I got a role in the ensemble of my school musical, "The King and I" and I have been trying to get into an acting agency for ages now. But here we go. My thoughts on the MLP Movie:

The My Little Pony movie was very well received by the brony fandom. But the question here is if it was well received by me. Did I like the movie? Yes. I loved the movie. But things bothered me nevertheless. But before I get all negative on you, let's focus on the positive.

Tabitha (the voice of Rarity) had said in a movie ad that she believes the animation in this movie will be an immersive experience. Like you can just walk into the movie if you wanted to. She was absolutely right. The animation was beautiful and colorful. The movements were so fluid and the eyes of the characters were so mesmerizing. I loved those eyes. I just couldn't stop looking into them.

I also loved the new characters. There are people who believe that their characters weren't shown long enough to get to know them, but I assure you that I can write a story about each of these movie characters. Every celebrity voice actor did an amazing job with what they were given as well as the familiar voice actors. They did a great job with showing off the characteristics of these brand new characters. I know that Capper is a cunning, devious trickster and that Skystar is an excited, optimistic seapony. Celano has the personality of a good old movie pirate and Novo has a lot of enjoyable sass. Tempest is determined and strong, but misunderstood, of course when we see her backstory. Grubber is one of those sidekicks trying way too hard to be funny and destined for diabetes. The Storm King was another sidekick who was trying way too hard to be funny… wait, the Storm King was the main villain?

Okay, let's get into some problems that I have. The Storm King was marketed as the main villain, but we only see him near the end of the movie. Only Tempest gets any real backstory. The Storm King is motivated to get his staff, but we have no idea why. When he finally does get his staff, he just moves the sun and moon back and forth because he can. No, really. That's it. Tempest Shadow was well-developed and a great villain, but she felt more like the main villain of the story. The Storm King was also one of those characters who was supposed to be funny, but for me, he fell extremely flat. I was very disappointed with the Storm King, especially after all of the hype the movie panel gave me for him.

Now, let's talk about Fluttershy. Oh, yeah. Fluttershy was in the movie too. She said “yay” and had a Wizard of Oz reference joke. That's… about all she got, except for a few song lines. My little sister loves Fluttershy. When she finally saw the movie, even she knew Fluttershy wasn't in it enough. (She also missed Discord though. She likes FlutterCord. I taught her well.) Fluttershy felt like she was forced into the movie. Applejack played a significant role in the beginning as Twilight's friend to lean on, Rarity fixed Capper’s jacket, Rainbow Dash helped the pirates, and Pinkie Pie did a ton of other things including but not limited to helping the seaponies. Of course, Twilight was the main character, so she was in it the most. I understand that. But… Fluttershy comforts a storm creature that we only see for ten seconds. That's about all of the help she gives. Fluttershy may not be my favorite pony, but I still love her a lot and I missed her kindness.

Now, here’s something most fans don't talk about. Twilight getting sucked into the storm. (Get ready because I have a lot to say about this!) So far, I seem to be the only fan bothered by this scene. Not bothered enough to hate the scene, but still irked everytime I watch it. Wanna know why? Emotion! I seem to be the only fan who is bothered by the way emotion is portrayed in movies. If a character just doesn't seem to care enough (unless they're meant to not care), it irks me. When Twilight was sucked into the storm, their best friend for a long time had just been taken from them. It looked like she was gone for good. Their reactions… irked me. Pinkie Pie sheds a few tears and Applejack sheds a tear. They still don't look like they miss Twilight enough for me to be convinced. Fluttershy and Rarity just stared at the sky and Rainbow Dash and Spike weren't even in the shot. I mean… if you want me to feel something for Twilight, her friends need to feel something first. I had actually hoped to see Rainbow Dash and Spike’s reactions to it the most. That's because Rainbow Dash puts on a tough exterior and Spike has considered Twilight like family for a long time. I know that this is a very personal opinion of mine more than a popular one, but I had to vent it out somewhere. If I was the director of the pony movie, I would have gotten some more emotion in that scene. I mean, I know it's a short scene, but it would've made the climax for me. If you want me to think you care about what happens to your beloved book horse, then convince me that you care about what happens to your beloved book horse! Call me cynical, but I love shows, movies, musicals, and plays that convince me they are actually sad.

But this movie wasn't in any way horrible. Oh, not at all. I give it an 8/10. Do I want to watch it again? Totally. Do I want to own it? Oh, heck yeah, I do! I’ll still be a bit bothered by those things, but the positives in this movie overshadow the negatives making it a wonderful movie! Good on ya, Allspark (Hasbro in disguise)! :raritywink:
