T minus 40 seconds…
“Catastrophic hull failure imminent! All personnel, abandon ship!” The ship’s central computer was blaring loudly over the intercom as Spottedfang trotted as fast as he could to the nearest escape pod. The one he reached had a bright red ‘5’ on the side. Another pony arrived at the pod just after he did. It was his friend, Sea Clamp, who he’d always teased about the misspelling in her name. Eventually, he’d found out that her specialty was underwater. They both went into the pod, then sat down in the seats on either side of the pod.
“Launching in: Three. Two. One.” said the escape pod’s computer once they pushed the launch button. Immediately after, the pod launched. Through the hatch at the top of the pod, Spottedfang saw the side of the Aura explode.
“What were we hit by?” he asked.
“I don’t know exactly, Fang, but it seemed like some sort of energy pulse.” said Sea. “Like an EMP pulse.”
“EMP pulses don’t rip the damn hull apart! What we’re dealing with is a fucking death beam!” Fang shouted. Before Sea could respond, the pod started to shake wildly. The fire extinguisher on the wall fell to the floor, then went flying towards Sea. When it hit her head, she was out cold. Her right temple started bleeding instantly. “SEA!” Everything started to fall apart from there. Quite literally, too. The metal covering on the circuit box bow fell off, the wires shorted out and broke, and last, the covering flew over and hit Fang in the forehead, knocking him out.
