When I was going into this episode, I was expecting the worst, that maybe this will be the episode to disrupt season 7's streak of good episodes. After all, Spike episodes are known for their lack of quality.

Thank goodness I was wrong. This was a good episode. It does however highlight a problem that most Spike-centered episodes tend to get into: Spike being the one who causes the problem. Although in this case it had nothing to do with selfish desires, but rather a genuine concern for his friends. He assumed the worst and tried to fix it... unintentionally causing friendship problem to occur. This in and of itself sort of makes the episode predictable. Except for the map part, that was unexpected.

Originally I thought this episode was truly going to feed into Spike's fears, by showing that Ember and Thorax do hate each other. Instead, they went for the "misunderstanding" approach, where the two realize the other has no intention in hurting Spike. Understandably, they are both upset at Spike for keeping them apart.

Even though this episode does the one the thing I mentioned above, it does it in a way that works with the message it is trying to teach. The best parts of the episode by far involve Ember and Thorax, especially towards the end where they give each other advice on ruling their people. Also the gag with Ember mistaking Starlight for Twilight is kinda funny (side note: I know some people could interpret this as racism, but for me, I just see this as meta humor; considering how Starlight Glimmer's name is actually a synonym for Twilight Sparkle).
I also liked the message of the episode as well.
Overall, this was good episode.

7/10 Good
