The changeling had been found and killed by Applejack when it was discovered in the barn, drinking milk from the cows. Applebloom had seen Applejack burying it, and asked about it, but Applejack had driven her off.
She remembered that moment vividly.
The smell of the body, the appearance of the green blood. The cattle tag in its ear and broken bell around the changeling's neck. She’d tried to forget it for several months, but she also never forgot what Applejack had said that day…
“Good ponies don’t ask questions. You’re my sweet little Applebloom, right?”
Late last night, she’d heard Applejack sneaking out to the barn, and this morning they had the same number of cows again. The same tag was in a cow's ear, and a fancy new bell was wrapped around its neck.
She’d asked Applejack about it, and Applejack had given her a chilling smile. She had placed a heavy hoof on her head, then ruffled her mane and tugged her bow.
“Good ponies don’t ask questions. You ARE my sweet little Applebloom, right?”
End.
