2nd Ever Blog Post & 5 Year Fimfic Accountiversary!

In my 3 year anniversary blog post I said I'd make a 5 year anniversary post if I was still here, and I'm still kicking, still working my way through horse words. I don't read all too much these days, I want to but I find it hard to find fresh and half decent material fitting my tastes, but I still stumble across the occasional gem now and again. Every now and then I find a story that inflames my

First ever blog post and 3 year Fimfiction account anniversary!

Despite my miniscule amount of followers, most of which are from my first story which was well received but I chose to delete, many of whom are probably no longer even active, I will make a blog post for this. It's been three years since I decided to join Fimfiction! Sure I dabbled in it without an account for a little while beforehand but still, this is (believe it or not) actually quite an

2nd Ever Blog Post & 5 Year Fimfic Accountiversary! · 8:47pm Jul 10th, 2017

Every now and then I find a story that inflames my passion for this fandom and reminds me why I joined in the first place. I've resorted to re-reading some of my old favourites such as the timeless piece by getmeouttahere that is 'Exchange' and one of the first HiE stories I ever read, 'For Lack of a Better Word', and they're still just as good today.

In the 2 years since my last blog post, I worked my way through some more of the show, I've reached the point where I've finished season 5. I have to say, now that I'm less attached to the show itself, I find myself able to enjoy some of the episodes I previously disliked a lot more. I used to hate how some episodes from seasons 3 onwards were stupid, ruined my headcanon, and were bad because of X, Y and Z, but when I re-watched them I was able to just enjoy them as discrete episodes of the show, not paying all too much attention to continuity or the bigger picture.

I'll stop my rambling soon as none of it is important anyway. I graduated today, got my BSc first class honours and was all suited and booted in my robes, I'm glad it coincides with my accountiversary as I maintain I had the time of my life when I joined this site and spent all of the summer of 2012 onwards absorbed in pony fiction. I've read some of the greatest literature of my life on here, as well as some of the worst, and while I'm not that involved in the fandom or even this site to an extent anymore, I have no regrets and wouldn't take any of it back.

I'll see you again in another blog post on the 10th of July, 2022! take another pony pic as well i dunno

Congratulations on graduating, and thanks for the recs. I'm not sure about Exchange because while it does sound good, I'm not usually a fan of second person stories and I've frankly gotten sick of Twilight due to the way the show made her a Mary Sue after Faust got the boot and the fact that far too many people around here mindlessly eat it up and then regurgitate it on this site. That said, For Lack of a Better Word looks great, especially since it's been a while since I could find a good Rainbow Dash fic because no one has really written any since the show went to shit and utterly trashed Rainbow's nuanced character.

Thanks man, I've really landed on my feet this year, come July 29th I fly out to live in Japan and teach English for what could be a couple of years too. Also I only named a few stories, I have a word document somewhere on my PC with a whole list of stories I plan to re-read when the apocalypse comes. I do wholeheartedly recommend Exchange though, it's probably my favorite piece of literature I've ever read and that is not hyperbole, but there's a reason it's so incredibly popular. And TRUST me, Twilight in that story is not a Mary Sue...

Give the first few chapters a try, it's original, funny, an emotional roller coaster, for me it has everything and it's written incredibly well.

Cool, that sounds like a lot of fun, and it should be a great experience to immerse yourself in their culture like that. Just visiting can never really match the experience of living somewhere, and it sounds like you plan on making the most of that opportunity which is great.

As for Exchange, I did throw it on my high priority list and it does sound good so I'll probably get around to it sooner or later, but my issue with Twilight is less about what I expect from that story in particular and more about the shit souring her for me in general. It does help that it looks like Celestia is going to be playing a bigger role in that story than Twilight, but I already have a pile of other things to read (including 1492 unread chapters between my tracking and favorites) so I have to prioritize.

Also, if you find that document again, you should post it here somehow, possibly as a separate bookshelf the way I posted my own recommendations (which also makes them easier to find and reread). Even if you don't post real reviews of those stories, just having that list would be useful to better differentiate between things you like and things you recommend.

Yeah I'm really looking forward to making the move, some logistical problems I need to sort out but those are just small bumps in the road.

Like I say, I can't recommend Exchange enough. I fell in love with it when I first read it, and it's the first story, pony or otherwise, that I re-read in my life. I actually re-read it in one sitting, marathon read the full thing, it really stood the test of time compared to when I read it back in 2014.

Also God damn that's a lot of unread chapters. I took a fimfiction break for a few weeks as I was busy with exams and was in a CSGO frenzy, I let them build to 45 unread chapters which I thought was bad, managed to get it back at a healthy 25 now.

I managed to find that document with a quick search, the problem is that a lot of the stories I put on there were not yet finished, so there are a good few dead stories on there as well as some that are unfinished but still actively update. Might make a bookshelf for them though, but as I haven't re-read the vast majority of the stories on this document yet I do wonder if they'll stand up as well as I thought they did when I read them back in the day.

Anyway it's 2am so I'm going to head to bed, but it was nice hearing from you again. Have a good night, man.

Oh and if you do get round to reading Exchange, particularly if you finish it and stick with it, let me know what you thought.

Ok, I'll definitely try to make it more of a priority then, and I'll try to remember to let you know afterwards (assuming I remember :derpytongue2:)

Honestly, that backlog isn't as bad as it sounds. About half of those are stories that are on the largely ignored tracking list which weren't great or did something stupid so I'm not terribly interested in getting back to them, and while quite a bit on the actual favorites list does deserve attention, there are also a fair number of dead fics on it that I probably won't bother with. Of course, that does still leave me with several hundred chapters of stuff to read which is hardly trivial. :twilightblush:

As for the document, you can wait and make a blog post when you get it sorted out if you want, or you can just throw what you are confident of on it now and do a rolling update as you get through things, possibly with quick reviews of the stories you are adding in blog posts to boot.

I decided to post my list of stories I plan to re-read with a few sentences reviewing them. It's quite long (a full fledged essays worth of material), but it's there now for you to check it out if you like.

Thanks, I'll go take a look, see what jumps out at me, and probably throw everything on my high priority list anyways (or at least the stories I haven't read already).
