    A Diamond Birthday to Celebrate

Diamonds, they are often found 'In the Rough'.
They come in many shapes and sizes.
But the most sought after feature is the brilliant fire that shines inside the clarity the finished gem.

The Luck O' the Irish, and a Hungarian Mare

March 17, St. Patrick's Day, the anniversary of when I joined this MLP community, eight years ago, and, as I've recently found out, the birth date of a very very unique individual in the Thoroughbred world.

A Sunny Day at Belmont Park (I wish I was there) · 9:38pm Jun 10th, 2017

So the last jewel of the American Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing goes to post in about an hour.

Absent will be the winners of both the Kentucky Derby (Always Dreaming) and Preakness Stakes (Cloud Computing), along with leading contender Classic Empire (recurring hoof abscess [makes you wonder what kind of common ailments/injuries exist in Equestria at times]) and Japanese entry Epicharis is a late morning scratch after failing to get a doctor's note for this one to keep his number 11 post (what is best for the horse as it goes in my book).

So who does that leave in the running ...

Irish War Cry is the current favorite, with the talented trio of Tapwrit, Gormely, and Lookin at Lee, as the prospective Superfecta.

Of course part of my heart rides with the number 12 horse, Patch, 'the One Eyed Wonder' as he's now started to be called. I really hope he may just surprise some. Why? It seems Patch just happens to be the great great grandson of Big Red himself. Secretariat is Patch's damsire's (mother's father) damsire. With the X-factor being passed on the female line it puts Patch in position to inherit that trait from his illustrious ancestor. He may not be the fastest runner out there, but maybe he'll show he's got the heart to go the mile-and-a-half better than the others.

Happy and Safe Running to all involved.

May Secretariat guide you and Ruffian keep you safe.
