Yeah, yeah, I'm talking about another Tabletop RPG.
Originally this was the system that was primarily used by Margaret Weiss Productions. As Cortex it was used in things like the Serenity RPG and the Battlestar Galactica RPG. Then as Cortex Plus it was used for things like Marvel Heroic Roleplaying, Smallville, and Firefly.
Well Margaret Weiss Productions seems to have gotten out of the RPG market. In response, Cam Banks -- the primary developer on a lot of those previously mentioned games -- founded his own company (Magic Vacuum Design Studio) and licensed the ruleset from them.
This is the result. Cortex Prime, a book that combines all of that previous RPG design space and offers it as a toolkit to design whatever game you want around it. Kinda like Fate Core, or GURPS.
I'm always in for a new adaptable RPG system to mine for ideas, and Cam is a stand-up fellow over at RPG.net's Tabletop Forums, so I backed the Kickstarter despite a relative unfamiliarity with the system.
Thus do I present it to the few nerds who give a shit about what I have to say. Doesn't hurt that the prices are super reasonable. Check it out if you're interested. It's funded already, so from here on out it's all gravy. He's got a load of authors lined up to produce setting content for the new ruleset, and he's using his stretch goals to pay them to do it.
