    Check In

    Afternoon/evening folks!

Sorry I haven't been checking in as often as I should; rest assured I'm not dead, I'm still here, just been silent as of late. Still working on fics, but also constantly debating with myself on what to focus on next, wanted to make some new stuff that isn't just Shattered or Star Wars. Wanna bring more folks in, do somethin' new.

    Top Ten Films/Series Of 2023/Reflections

First off, Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

Hard to believe another year has passed, hasn't it? *sighs* how time has flown by. A lot's happened this year; more stories, more creativity and entertainment has come, and I've learned more about myself, and I am very glad for that.

Don't Breathe Review + SPOILERS! · 2:25pm Apr 23rd, 2017

Yep. I'm doing another review. Don't know why, just felt like reviewing something else. Anyway, lets begin!

You know... when you make a film about a group of teenagers who are breaking into a home that belongs to a blind guy... do you really think we're gonna have any sympathy for these teenagers? Cause I'm gonna be rooting for the blind guy. At least I was until it went much later in the film.

So... yeah. Today's film is pretty much a lesson that from my perspective is that not everything is what it seems and also you should never mess with blind people. PERIOD.

So, without further ado, lets all breathe in a little bit of, Don't Breathe.

So our plot centers around these robbers, who basically are hired to go into an almost abandoned neighborhood, to rob a house of an old man who's blind as a bat, and who's an old war veteran. However, when their noise wakes him up, they start to realize how strong he is since he's an retired soldier, and he's highly sensitive to hearing, and now its become a personal mission for the remaining two robbers to get out of the house before he kills them.

Okay, let me start with the positives.

First of all, the film does an excellent job with the tension and the suspense. The idea of being trapped in a house with a blind man that's this strong, and can hear every single sound is terrifying to think about, and the movie keeps making you question what's going to happen, it doesn't give up.

Second, I do like how one of our few leads, who plays the main lead in Goosebumps (not Jack Black) who is a pretty okay guy, he's the most likable out of all the robbers, who seems to have actual morals and he questions the idea of them breaking into the home of the blind guy because, well, its downright wrong!

Third, Stephen Lang as the blind guy. He is one scary guy, you don't want to mess with him. He's freakin terrifying, and I kept thinking 'KEEP ME AWAY FROM HIM!'.

However... there are some issues I have with this film, especially with a twist that occurs in the film. By the way I am spoiling this, so I am terribly sorry about this. But I'll cover it in the spoiler marks and I did warn you above.

Like during the middle of the film, the two robbers that are left, go down into the basement and find this woman that's chained up and gagged, and its revealed that she was the lady responsible for the accidental death of the blind guy's daughter. And apparently... EW... Ugh... this is sick, she's being held there against her will, impregnated, to give birth to a child to make up for the death of his daughter, and... okay. Look, I know its bad that she killed her (accidentally mind you) But this... THIS IS NOT OKAY! ITS WRONG MAN, GOD!

Plus the other thing from the situation, I think the actress who played that woman, Cindy, had the easiest role in this film, because she has no lines! In her entire scene, she's gagged even when she has her hands free able to move them around which honestly makes no sense to me. I mean, her hands are free, plus she's able to move when they free her, so why didn't she take her gag off? Why didn't THEY take her gag off? What was it trapped in place? Were there several locks on it to keep it from getting off her? Was it sewn to her face like... nope. I'm not referencing that. That's disgusting.

And just from that twist alone, it makes nobody likable. I'm not sure if they were trying to make the robbers sympathetic but, the problem is, THEY'RE BREAKING INTO A HOUSE OF A FREAKING BLIND GUY and they continue to do bad things through the film, so there's no justification for it. I don't care if what he did was just as wrong, they're still robbing a freakin blind guy! Nobody looks good in either scenario, and nobody is innocent here! So really, the only thing to root for is if they all die, and that's about it.

And the amount of jumpscares, ugh. For a film that does a good job about setting up tension and atmosphere, they have quite a lot of jumpscares which is annoying. And you all know how I feel about jump-scares in film... Especially when they're the only scares you use in your film with no tension or suspense... I'm watching you Blumhouse...

And this last thing that's kind of a problem, suspension of disbelief. The blind guy is like a freaking superhero. Just make him younger, give him a cane, and give him ninja abilities, and he'll turn into the freakin Daredevil. I know when you're blind, your other senses become heightened, and I don't have good eyesight myself. I'm not blind, but my eyes are not great. But I know for a fact, your senses aren't... this heightened! (unless that's account of his strength since he's a former soldier, but moving on)

But for a final plus, there is the thing where they make stupid decisions, this is a horror film. We wouldn't have a horror film without stupid decisions. There are times where the robbers vision will zoom in on objects, that they can use to kill the blind guy, but they don't use them.

But those are my problems. And I'll give this, there is one scene that I don't think was supposed to be funny, but I laughed my *bleep* off. The girl in the group tries running away and getting into her car and she gets chased by the angry dog that belongs to the blind guy. And during this, she manages to get inside the car and locks the doors to keep the dog from getting in, but when she realizes she has no keys to get moving, the dog is seen right on the hood of the car just standing there... :rainbowlaugh: I'm sorry, that was just freaking hilarious.

End result is, nobody's likable.

This film is pretty good with suspense and thrills, and its worth a view. If you can handle some of the disturbing things that can occur within, but it is a very good film. So, if you're up for a thriller about dealing with a bulked up blind guy, this is the film for you.

I give this film, a 7 out of 10.

So, I wish you all a good morning and enjoy your day. Now, lets see what else I got to review... lets see, what do we have... (reads reviews and articles) Hm... should I review Suicide Squad... or not?
